The World has entered an era of the most profound and challenging change in human history. In addition, studies have identified what is referred to as a “skills gap” – a difference in how learners/students are prepared for the workforce and the skills and character employers are seeking to match the demands of today’s global economy. What if our learners/students could be better prepared to meet the future challenges of our ever-changing world? We only get one chance to prepare our learners/students for a future none of us can possibly predict. What are we going to do with that one chance? Learners/students need to develop twenty-first-century skills to succeed in life. When asked what is needed in the forthcoming workforce, over 2,000 employers from 24 countries responded with the following (Edexel survey):
Problem-solving skills
Positive thinking
Creativity/Innovation
Multitasking
Initiative
Cultural sensitivity
Teamwork
Empathy
Accepting responsibility
Communication
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students help learners/students learn how to apply timeless principles of successful behaviour to the tough issues and life-changing decisions they face. Through this programme, young persons are better prepared to stand up for themselves and resist peer pressure, be more goal-orientated and view life as a positive, meaningful experience.
