South African Businesswomen Development Network encourages and promotes the importance of entrepreneurship in creating jobs and eradication of poverty in South Africa, especially in townships and rural areas. Having identif

ied all the challenges facing the society of South Africa we realized that the only solution is to promote and support entrepreneurship and cooperatives initiatives and support business people, especially women and youth. For starters, there is an urgent need to encourage people to establish their own businesses, cooperatives or enterprises and for South African Government and other relevant agencies to support these initiatives. There is an acknowledgement that the Country has programmes through its Economic Development division which are aimed at supporting business. The only challenge is that the government y’s efforts do not filter down to the small businesses, especially women and youth owned enterprises. Ignorance might be one of the reasons, but lack of resources such as capital, access to internet as well as lack of information regarding available support from the government as well as other relevant agencies (public / private sector/ NGOs).
