South African National Seed Organization (SANSOR) is proud to have sponsored Lathitha Ngwane from Stellenbosch University to participate in the Agbiz Congress 2026 Student Case Competition, where some of South Africa’s brightest young agricultural minds showcased their talent and innovation.

The competition challenged students to develop practical solutions to real-world issues in the wheat value chain, demonstrating the critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership needed to shape the future of our industry.

Proud moment for SANSOR as our General Manager (and Agbiz Second Deputy Chair), Dr Lukeshni Chetty, delivered the welcome address at the Agbiz Congress in Gqeberha! 📍

​Dr Chetty highlighted the event as a vital platform for stakeholders to share expertise, tackle industry challenges, and innovate for the future. ​"Agriculture has always been about people, feeding communities, stewarding resources and steering the industry towards the future."

We are looking forward to a truly productive, insightful, and enjoyable few days of networking, learning, and collaborating with partners across the sector.

In her welcome address at the 2026 Agbiz (Agricultural Business Chamber) Congress in Gqeberha, Dr Lukeshi Chetty, general manager of the South African National Seed Organisation (SANSOR) and second deputy chairperson of Agbiz, said that in a time of great change, the congress provides an opportunity for stakeholders to share expertise across the sector.

She added that gatherings such as the Agbiz Congress create an ideal platform to discuss solutions to the challenges facing the industry while recognising the realities in which the sector operates.

“We believe in the future of agriculture and the country. Agriculture has always been about people, feeding communities, stewarding resources and steering the industry towards the future. We have always been able to innovate and adapt to the opportunities and challenges facing the sector and to meet changing consumer expectations,” she said.

At the ISF President’s Dinner last night, Dr. Lukeshni Chetty, General Manager of South African National Seed Organization (SANSOR), was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the International Seed Federation (ISF) — one of the highest honours in the global seed industry.

Previous recipients include global leaders such as Hiroshi Sakata (President of Sakata Seed Corporation) and Mary Ann Sayoc (Head of Partnerships and Alliances at East-West Seed). Lukeshni received the award on 17 May alongside Mario Schindler, Executive Director of the Chilean Seed Association, and SANSOR extends its congratulations to Mario and the Chilean seed industry.

Lukeshni has served on the ISF Board since 2022 with unwavering dedication and passion. This lifetime honour recognises her exceptional contributions to ISF and the global seed industry, as well as her strong commitment to advancing both regional and international objectives in the sector.

On behalf of the SANSOR team and our members, we are incredibly proud of Lukeshni for this outstanding and well-deserved recognition.

We are pleased to share the attached media statement from Agbiz (Agricultural Business Chamber) regarding the ongoing Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) response, including the recent handover of goods coordinated between Agbiz, AFASA, Agrinet and South African National Seed Organization.

This initiative reflects the strong collaboration between industry stakeholders and government in supporting national biosecurity and disease response efforts across affected provinces.

SANSOR is proud to be part of this coordinated industry effort, contributing alongside partner organisations to support the farming communities

This year’s theme, “𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧,” reminds us of the critical role plant health plays in sustaining our food systems and protecting livelihoods worldwide. As global challenges such as climate change, emerging pests and diseases, and food insecurity intensify, strengthening plant biosecurity has never been more important. At the heart of this is the seed.

Every crop begins with a seed — and with it, both opportunity and responsibility. Seed health is plant health, and seed security is food security. Through strong phytosanitary measures, seed certification, and collaboration on international standards, the seed sector plays a vital role in safeguarding agriculture, supporting safe trade, and ensuring access to high-quality seed.

Today we are visiting the University of Limpopo for a special guest lecture focused on the vital role of the seed industry in shaping sustainable agriculture and food security. “𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧".

Through this engagement, we hope to inspire students and create awareness of the diverse career opportunities available within the seed industry, while highlighting the importance of seed systems in sustainable agriculture and food security.

The Department of Plant Production, Soil Science, and Agricultural Engineering (PSAE), in partnership with the South African National Seed Organisation (SANSOR), will host a guest lecture titled “From Seed to Society: How the Seed Industry Powers Food Security and Innovation,” presented by Dr Lukeshni Chetty, General Manager of SANSOR. The event will take place Thursday, 30 April 2026.
