Last week, SANSOR's Forage and Turf Executive Committee meeting took place at the Roodebloem Trial Farm near Caledon in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.

An interesting fact about the farm is that Roodebloem plays an important role in evaluating forage crop cultivars, helping assess performance, adaptability and yield potential under local growing conditions.

The day also included a Plant Breeders' Rights (PBR) Information Session, hosted by SANSOR and KISH IP, where industry stakeholders gathered to learn more about the Plant Breeders' Rights Act 12 of 2018, its impact on the seed industry, and what it means for breeders, producers and other stakeholders.

The session aimed to strengthen engagement and collaboration between the seed industry, agricultural co-operatives and farmers, ensuring a shared understanding of the value of innovation and intellectual property in agriculture.
