Today at the SSK Winter Grain Day 2026 in Riversdale, Dr Miekie Human, guest speaker at the event, is leading the conversation on "New Seed Technologies in South Africa: Innovations and Regulations - What Does This Mean for Agriculture?"

Her presentation explores how advances in seed technology, supported by effective regulatory frameworks, can unlock new opportunities for South African agriculture, strengthen farmer resilience, and contribute to a sustainable future for the sector.

SANSOR participated in the SACTA - SA Cultivar & Technology Agency Annual Stakeholder Engagement Meeting (ASEM) 2026, held in Pretoria as SACTA celebrated its 10-year milestone.

Guided by the theme "Stronger pathways, Sustainable future", the event brought together industry leaders, researchers and stakeholders to discuss the future of plant breeding, innovation and farmer resilience in South Africa.

During the panel discussion on Wheat Industry Challenges, Quality, Plant Breeders' Rights and Genome Editing, SANSOR Technical Manager Kobus van Huyssteen shared the seed industry's perspective on the regulatory challenges surrounding breeders' rights and genome editing, while highlighting progress within South Africa's policy framework. He emphasised the importance of protecting breeding technologies, recognising the significant investment required to develop new varieties, and continuing collective action against illegal seed sales (brown bagging).

The SANSOR Seed Certification Course is currently underway this week at The Capital Menlyn Maine, Pretoria, bringing together industry professionals committed to upholding the highest standards in South Africa's seed sector.

Participants are engaging in valuable learning and practical discussions focused on seed certification processes, quality assurance, regulatory requirements, and best practices that contribute to a trusted and sustainable agricultural value chain.

We thank all the participants, facilitators, and industry experts for contributing to what promises to be a highly impactful week.

Today, we are excited to be exhibiting at the 2026 Career Fair at the University of Limpopo, hosted by the Faculty of Science and Agriculture along with the Faculty of Health Sciences under the theme "Where Talent Meets Opportunity."

With approximately 300 students attending and a diverse range of exhibitors representing the agriculture, environmental science, and health science sectors, the event provides a meaningful platform for students to explore career opportunities, connect with industry professionals, and gain valuable insights into future career pathways.

As the voice of South Africa's seed industry, SANSOR is excited to share knowledge about the critical role of seed in agricultural innovation, food security, and sustainable development. Through conversations with students, we are highlighting the many opportunities available across the seed value chain and encouraging the next generation to consider careers that will help shape the future of agriculture.

This morning, industry leaders, professionals and stakeholders from across the agricultural value chain gathered at Ivory Manor Boutique Hotel in Pretoria for the 2026 Women in Agriculture Women's Day High Tea, proudly hosted by SANSOR and Enza Zaden

Rooted in the theme of strength, the event brought together remarkable women from all corners of the agri sector to connect, inspire and celebrate the invaluable role women play in driving innovation, food security, research, business and leadership.

A highlight of the morning was an inspiring keynote address by renowned broadcaster Cindy Poluta (947 and 702), whose message, "Woman in a Man's World", encouraged attendees to embrace their voice, own their space, and lead with confidence and resilience.

Thank you to every woman who joined us today. Your passion, determination and leadership continue to cultivate a stronger future for agriculture.
