SANSOR is thrilled to be attending today’s Soul to Soil event, hosted by Food For Mzansi in partnership with the Agricultural Development Agency (AGDA), at the Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel in Centurion.

​We are especially excited to have our very own Dr Miekie Human, SANSOR Science and Policy Officer, taking the stage as a featured panelist this morning!

With a PhD from the University of Pretoria and a background in producer-driven research at Grain SA, Miekie works at the heart of South Africa’s agricultural ecosystem. At SANSOR, she navigates complex portfolios in biosecurity, plant breeding innovations, intellectual property, and phytosanitary trade rules for seed imports and exports.

SANSOR participated in the SACTA - SA Cultivar & Technology Agency Annual Stakeholder Engagement Meeting (ASEM) 2026, held in Pretoria as SACTA celebrated its 10-year milestone.

Guided by the theme "Stronger pathways, Sustainable future", the event brought together industry leaders, researchers and stakeholders to discuss the future of plant breeding, innovation and farmer resilience in South Africa.

During the panel discussion on Wheat Industry Challenges, Quality, Plant Breeders' Rights and Genome Editing, SANSOR Technical Manager Kobus van Huyssteen shared the seed industry's perspective on the regulatory challenges surrounding breeders' rights and genome editing, while highlighting progress within South Africa's policy framework. He emphasised the importance of protecting breeding technologies, recognising the significant investment required to develop new varieties, and continuing collective action against illegal seed sales (brown bagging).

This morning, industry leaders, professionals and stakeholders from across the agricultural value chain gathered at Ivory Manor Boutique Hotel in Pretoria for the 2026 Women in Agriculture Women's Day High Tea, proudly hosted by SANSOR and Enza Zaden

Rooted in the theme of strength, the event brought together remarkable women from all corners of the agri sector to connect, inspire and celebrate the invaluable role women play in driving innovation, food security, research, business and leadership.

A highlight of the morning was an inspiring keynote address by renowned broadcaster Cindy Poluta (947 and 702), whose message, "Woman in a Man's World", encouraged attendees to embrace their voice, own their space, and lead with confidence and resilience.

SANSOR and KISCH IP have jointly issued a press release following the successful resolution of a case involving the unlawful advertising and sale of protected oats seed outside the authorised distribution chain. The matter highlights the practical application of South Africa's Plant Breeders' Rights framework and the importance of protecting innovation, traceability, and compliance within the seed sector.
