🎉 A Huge Congratulations to the Pretoria Boys High School l Prefects of 2027! 🎓✨

From everyone at The Grove Schoombee Foundation NPC and Daybreak Baby House | Place of Safety , we want to send our warmest congratulations to the boys who have been chosen to lead PBHS in 2027!

Over the years, so many of these exceptional young men have spent their time with us at Daybreak House for abandoned babies. From taking the little ones out for afternoon strolls and wrestling with the toddlers, to kicking a ball around and filling the garden with laughter, we have built memories that we will cherish forever.

We are so incredibly fortunate to have gotten to know these fine young men and to witness their heart, leadership, and kindness firsthand.

To the Prefects of 2027: good luck with the big tasks and responsibilities ahead! We are so proud of you, and we look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish. We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon! 💙👶🏼⚽

Today, we pause to remember and celebrate the life of Grové Schoombee, who passed away four years ago today, on 27 September 2021.

​Grové brought so much light into the lives of everyone around him. We remember him as someone who:
Enjoyed every moment of life to the fullest. Found joy and laughter in life's simple, everyday things.
Deeply loved his family and friends.
Above all, walked closely with the Living God, the Creator of all things.

As Psalm 27 reminds us to magnify and glorify the Lord, we take comfort in knowing his faith and spirit live on.

"We miss you every day, Grové.”

HAMBA NAWE — WE WALK WITH YOU

Our hearts are filled with gratitude when we reflect on how Hamba Nawe Project - Paediatric Palliative Care, under the leadership of Dr Ané Buchner , took flight in 2025.

Last weekend, Hamba Nawe hosted a Paediatric Palliative Care Conference in Pretoria, attended by more than 120 people. Healthcare professionals, experts and families came together to learn, share their experiences and deepen the understanding of what it truly means to walk alongside a child and family facing a life-limiting illness.

Palliative care is deeply personal to me.

When my brother, Grové Schoombee, became terminally ill with colon cancer, Dr Ané gave me invaluable advice. She guided us towards the right support to help Grové manage his pain, find nursing assistance and connect with a compassionate palliative-care doctor who cared for him until he took his final breath.

We will forever be grateful for the doctors, nurses and carers who are brave enough to enter the sacred space of palliative care—the place where you may not always have the right words, but you show up, remain present and refuse to let a family walk alone.

One attendee shared that the conference gave palliative care a far deeper meaning than any textbook definition could offer. Real people shared real experiences, knowledge and expertise. The discussions explored childhood cancer, pain and symptom management, culture, spirituality, grief and the many people needed to support a child and family throughout this journey.

Two mothers, Bonni Suckling and Melissa Williams, courageously shared their experiences of losing their sons to cancer. Their stories highlighted how much the presence, love and support of a programme like Hamba Nawe can mean during an unimaginably difficult time.

The attendee reflected:
“Hamba Nawe does not only care for children with cancer. It cares for the mother, the father and the entire family. It gives them the support they need, sees them and remains present for them.”

What a beautiful, sun-drenched day with Daybreak House! ☀️✨

We gathered in the garden for our ‘Kleur die Lig In’ morning with Alsuli_creative , and it was pure magic. We laughed, enjoyed delicious snacks, and learned all about the power of colour—and how amazing it feels to step out of your comfort zone to craft something truly unique with your own hands! 👜🎨
The incredible Alicia from Alsuli_creative shared her inspiring journey, showing us how colour impacted her life and led her to create Alsuli Design. She reminded us of the courage it takes to "walk in your own colour" in a world that often rewards fitting in. 🌈
There is something deeply beautiful about women coming together—celebrating life, embracing creativity, and giving back to vulnerable babies, one handcrafted bag at a time. 👶🩵

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and poured so much love into this morning. We can’t wait to see your finished bags in a few weeks!
