Communities must move from being passive beneficiaries to active co-creators in shaping Africa’s health financing future.
CCI is proud to participate in the global dialogue on Unlocking Community Voices for Africa’s Health Financing Agenda. Organised by VillageReach, the gathering brings together leaders, practitioners and advocates to reimagine how communities can meaningfully influence health financing discourse across the continent.

Our CEO, Dr. Sakumzi Ntayiya, is representing South African communities, covering the topic on “Moving from “passive beneficiaries” to “cocreators”. His contribution covered insights on practical steps required to build a truly community-responsive health financing agenda for Africa.

This important dialogue creates space for collective reflection, shared learning and co-creation — ensuring that communities are not only heard, but actively shape decisions that affect their health and wellbeing.

Together, communities are driving change from the ground up!

Through their own lived experiences and perspectives, Community Monitors share why community participation remains critical in improving the quality of healthcare services in South Africa.

Community-Led Monitoring is more than monitoring systems, it is about ensuring dignity, equity, accountability and meaningful inclusion for all affected communities.

Today marks a powerful milestone as the new Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) logo was officially unveiled at the CCI-organised CLM session currently underway in Johannesburg. More than just a visual identity, this logo represents the collective voice, leadership and resilience of key and vulnerable populations driving Community-Led Monitoring efforts across the country.

It reflects the lived realities, advocacy and leadership of:
• Women
• Youth
• People Living with HIV
• Persons affected by TB
• LGBTQI+ communities
• S*x workers
• People Who Use Drugs
• Persons Living With Disabilities

Designed by Khanyisa Dunjwa from Ilitha Labantu - the logo intentionally incorporates the South African flag in its original form to honour and preserve our national identity, while the rainbow element symbolises diversity, inclusion, dignity and solidarity among communities.

The interwoven ribbons and vibrant colours reflect the unity and inclusion of all represented groups within the broader CLM movement, including youth and people who use drugs. The royal blue “Monitoring” text signifies trust, accountability and structured community oversight.

Grounded in the core CLM values of:
✨ Communities
✨ Accountability
✨ Equity
✨ Dignity

📍Johannesburg, South Africa
Ahead of the critical work ahead, in communities across the country - CCI has convened host organisations, community monitors and partners for a 3-day Community-Led Monitoring (CLM), Communication & Advocacy Strategies Capacity Building Session.

It's about strengthening community systems through:
✔️ Data collection tools
✔️ Analysis, interpretation & solution generation
✔️ Information dissemination
✔️ Advocacy strategy development

Community-Based Organisations remain at the heart of the HIV and TB response. Their close connection to communities enables them to identify challenges, reduce stigma, improve treatment adherence and ensure services are responsive, inclusive and community driven.

It’s about building resilient civil society structures that can drive sustainable impact where it matters most.

Together, we are strengthening communities to lead change.

Joy. Hope. Real impact in Action. ✨

During a recent visit to the Centre for Positive Care — one of CCI’s Sub-Recipients showcased the powerful early moments of the S*x Worker Programme rollout. The energy in the room said it all. Stakeholders, community members and programme teams came together not just to observe, but to celebrate a programme that is already making a difference where it matters most. From access to essential health services to creating safe & supportive spaces, this rollout represents more than implementation — it’s about dignity, inclusion and restoring hope.

Voices were heard. Stories were shared. And most importantly, joy was visible. This is what meaningful community impact looks like.

CCI CEO Dr Sakumzi Ntayiya continued his stakeholder engagement visits with a stop at Tholwana eMolemo in the Western Cape.

A key highlight of the visit was a powerful and engaging dialogue with a vibrant group of S*x Workers, who courageously shared their personal journeys, offering real insight into the lived realities behind the programme.

Dr Ntayiya also noted how the programme is being implemented within the unique context of the Western Cape and how these learnings can inform responsive, community-centred approaches across provinces.

Today we celebrate a remarkable milestone! Our CEO, Dr. Sakumzi graduated from The University of the Western Cape with his PhD degree. His research explores a critical and often under-examined space: Accountability among male gender activists working to address GBV in South Africa.

Through powerful qualitative insights, his study examines how men in this field navigate accountability within deeply rooted systems of patriarchy and violent masculinity. It highlights the ongoing work of unlearning harmful norms. This work opens the door for more honest, caring and transformative engagement.

Congratulations Dr. Ntayiya. Your leadership continues to inspire change where it matters most. 👏

One of CCI's Sub Recipients implementing the S*x Worker programme, Humana People to People South Africa is officially geared up for the work ahead. HPPSA is already making meaningful strides in Limpopo. Human dignity is no longer just a concept, it is being restored, protected and upheld for s*x workers - who have long faced stigma, exclusion and barriers to essential services.

This is what readiness looks like.
This is what impact looks like.
