New Future

New Future All about community, sustainability, self-sufficiency, and living off-grid. A movement standing for economic and political change. Think global act local..

To create an understanding of the current economic, political and social systems how it works and how it came about. To help you create a life that is more free, sustainable, self-sufficient and in touch with nature. Lets create a new future where all of humanity can thrive. To create new systems that is more fair, just and equal. To create systems that is sustainable and more in touch with nature

. This was inspired by documentaries such as
Thrive, Zeitgeist, An inconvenient truth. There is enough for everyone's needs, but not for everyone's needs. If we keep on doing what we have been doing, we will keep on getting what we have been getting. To create a new future, we have to start doing things differently...

I also believe in not fighting the existing, as it only makes it stronger, but creating and building alternatives, that will naturally replace the existing, because it is better. About sustainability on all levels Global, National, Community, Family and individual. Also about all aspects including, food, water, energy, accommodation, economical and social. Creating more harmony between ourselves, others, and our environment. Its about creating, New ways. New ways of food production. New ways of energy production. New ways to build. New ways to interact and relate with each other. New political systems. New economic systems.

What if you could cut your monthly living costs by over a third — without sacrificing your standard of living?

In the latest post from the New Future eco-village series, we break down the economics of eco-village living. Real numbers. A side-by-side cost comparison. And a practical model for generating income, building ownership, and creating genuine community.

No utopian fantasies. No living in a tent. Just a smarter way to live.

Read it here: https://www.newfuture.co.za/how-will-it-work-the-eco-village-economic-model/

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Does this model make sense to you? What would you need to see before you’d consider a move like this? And what concerns would you have? Drop your thoughts in the comments — every bit of feedback helps us shape this into something that actually works for real families.

In our previous post, we explored the physical layout and facilities of a practical eco-village — the tiny houses, the community centre, the shared mobility hub, the greenhouses and agricultural spaces. If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it here: A Practical Eco-Village Design. But a beaut...

We've accepted a way of living that doesn't actually make sense.
Every family owns its own lawnmower, its own washing machine, its own car — most of which sit unused 90% of the time. Every household carries the full cost of housing, energy, transport, and food alone. And somehow we've normalised being completely disconnected from the people living 10 metres away from us.
I've been working on something different: a small, practical eco-village near Pretoria. Not a commune. Not off-grid survivalism. Just a smarter way to organise daily life — sharing what makes sense to share, keeping what's private private.
I wrote up the full design here:

A practical eco-village design exploring shared living, lower costs, and resilient communities. A real-world proof of concept for sustainable housing.

🇿🇦 **South Africa has the world's highest inequality.**

The numbers are staggering:
• Gini coefficient: 63 (highest globally)
• Richest 10% hold 71% of all wealth
• Poorest 60% hold just 7%
• Black South Africans own only 6% of what White South Africans own

Can a 120-year-old board game teach us how to fix this?

We ran an experiment. We played Monopoly three different ways - testing capitalism, socialism, and a hybrid model - to see what actually prevents inequality and bankruptcy.

**The results surprised us:**

🎲 **Game 1** (Pure redistribution): Someone STILL went bankrupt
🎲 **Game 2** (Balanced approach): Nobody went bankrupt, everyone prospered... but it was "boring"
🎲 **The lesson**: What makes a thrilling game makes a terrible society

That "boring" version? It's exactly what South Africa needs.

In our latest blog post, we break down:
✅ How doubling basic income prevents destitution
✅ Why wealth caps stop extreme accumulation
✅ What "even development" rules mean for education and infrastructure
✅ Practical policies that could actually work

**The game is rigged. But the rules can be rewritten.**

Imagine a more beautiful world that our hearts know is possible. Here is what such a world would look like for me.

How can we better meet our needs collectively? By better, I mean more cost-effectively and efficiently.

We would not need to work more than 4 to 6 hours, 5 days per week. This will enable me to have time to pursue my passions, interests and dreams. Because of cooperating and sharing resources, our cost of living would be drastically reduced.

There would be more connection and entertainment. Two times per week I will attend meetings with like-minded people or around subjects that interest me. Yoga, Meditation, Philosophy, Spirituality, Farming, Singing, Sauna, etc.

We would not have to pay high rents. We will own the buildings and property collectively. Rents will be used to maintain and improve the property. The capital will be in the organisation owning the property. Something between renting from a stranger and owning it myself.

We would not pay high fees for fuel, gas and electricity. All our energy needs will be met from solar. We will have a large central system with enough battery capacity for energy storage. Having one large system makes it more cost-effective and efficient in using the solar energy directly.

We would not have high grocery bills. Each person will specialise in one type of food production, and this will be shared, sold to everyone. For example. Chickens for eggs and meat, Bees for honey, mushrooms, greenhouses for vegies, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, etc. Sheep for meat.

We would not pay high insurance, license and maintenance fees on vehicles. We will have shared vehicles that are shared by everyone, and where one pays per km. One person is responsible for the administration of the fleet of vehicles. There will be different types of vehicles, cars, mini-buses, and trucks.

We would not have to spend a lot of money on tools and equipment that we rarely use. There will be a tool library and workstation where people can do metal work, woodwork, electronics, sewing, etc. There will be a few shared washing machines

Harmony, communication and decision making. Through various teaching modalities and methods, we will get along with each other in harmony. Harmony does not mean the absence of conflict but the effective resolution of it. For example, Echard Tolle, Non-violent communication, Crucial Conversations, consensus decision making, etc.

Would you be interested in living in a community like this? What are your thoughts? Anything I missed?

Reclaim Your Roots: Imagine a life where your food comes from a garden you tend, your energy from panels you installed, and your water from a system you designed. Self-sufficiency isn’t just about survival—it’s about crafting a life where you’re the architect of your own needs
