One thing about lions, they really do like lying together. 🦁

They can have all the space in the world and still end up pressed against each other, heads resting on backs, paws draped over whoever happens to be closest.

That contact is an important part of the social bonds within a pride, and you’ll see it all the time when they’re resting or greeting each other.

Kevin has spent so many years building those same bonds that more often than not, they’ll happily make themselves comfortable on him too.

Wildlife has always moved. But moving across a landscape isn’t as easy as it once was.

Animals move to access basic resources, but that movement does much more than that. It connects populations, maintains genetic diversity and forms part of the way entire ecosystems function.

The trouble comes when those routes start disappearing. A road here, a fence there, more land being developed. None of it happens all at once, but gradually the landscape becomes harder to cross and populations more isolated.

Relationship update: They’ve finally moved in together.

After weeks of exchanging glances through the fence (and perhaps a little help from our famous “love potion”), our Kariega male has officially moved in with the two Khamab lionesses.

The trio is now sharing a larger enclosure as they continue building the bonds they’ll need before their release into Dinokeng Game Reserve.

Every interaction, especially around mealtimes is being carefully monitored, allowing the lions to establish a natural pride dynamic at their own pace. One step closer to creating a genetically stronger wild lion population.

There were plenty of smiles in the classroom as we wrapped up our latest lion drawing competition.

It was a fun morning watching the children’s creativity come to life. Every drawing was different, reminding us that no two people see lions in quite the same way.

Congratulations to all our prize winners, and a big thank you to Rockercen Stationery for generously sponsoring the prizes.

A little attitude is a very good sign.


Our Mystery Cubs recently reached another important milestone with their routine inoculations.


Judging by these photos, they weren’t exactly thrilled with Dr Caldwell!


That’s something we’re actually happy to see, despite being in our care they’re still behaving exactly as young wild cheetahs should.


Even better, the little female’s eye continues to heal beautifully, and both cubs are progressing really well.

As wild places become smaller, people and predators are sharing the same spaces.
Protecting predators isn’t just about the animals.

It’s about working with the people who live alongside them and finding practical ways to reduce conflict.

Last Friday, Kevin shared the story of two orphaned mystery cheetah cubs found by a farmer after their mother disappeared.

Our Frontier Rangers were back in the classroom and this time it was all about vultures.

Recently, our ranger team took part in a vulture training course to better prepare them for responding to wildlife poisoning incidents.

Vultures do far more than clean the bush. They’re often among the first victims when poison is used, whether aimed at predators or to hide poaching activity.

The more we learn, the better equipped we are to protect wildlife in all its forms.
