Our four newest arrivals are settling in nicely. They’re still a little cautious, but becoming less skittish and more comfortable in their new surroundings each day.

As they settle, we’re starting to look at what comes next, including whether they may eventually be able to join our two familiar faces, the Mystery Cubs. As always, any decision will be based on what’s best for the individual cheetahs and their journey back to the wild.

Today is World Animal Day, a day that has been bringing attention to animal welfare around the world for more than 100 years.

A day for every species, although we all know where our heart lies. 🦁

On World Lion Day we launched the Lion Heart Collective, bringing together people around the world who share the same love for lions.

So today, we thought we’d check in.

Do lions have your heart too, or is there another animal that does?

Well, that didn’t take long… 🦁❤️

Just a few weeks after we helped relocate these wild lions into Dinokeng Game Reserve, one of the females has already been seen mating with the male released alongside them.

This move was about more than finding them a new home. By introducing new genetics into Dinokeng’s lion population, relocations like this help maintain healthy, genetically diverse lion populations across managed reserves.

Seeing them settle in and display natural behaviour so soon after release is a pretty special start. And who knows… perhaps the next update will be cubs.

Our FGASA course bursary winner recently passed his course, which was a big moment for him. But it’s what happens next that we love.

One opportunity leads to another. A new skill opens another door, and suddenly a career starts taking shape.

For Bongani, the next step is getting his driving licence and there’s even more good news. He already has a job lined up for when he’s done.

We’re so proud to see Bongani taking these next steps and turning this opportunity into a career.

One advantage of sanctuary life, these guys can enjoy it without worrying about what might be lurking in the water.

On World Tourism Day, it’s worth looking at both sides of tourism.

There’s no question it creates jobs, supports communities and can help protect wild places.

But there is another side to it.

Vehicles crowding sightings and interfering with natural behaviour. Lodges and roads built across areas wildlife have moved through for generations.
People have always wanted to experience wildlife up close. Perhaps the challenge is finding a balance between experiencing wild places and allowing them to remain wild.

In South Africa there will be a lot of talk around heritage today.

But heritage means something wherever you live.

We often think about where we come from and what’s been passed down to us. But how much thought do we give to what might not be passed down?

We’re lucky to still share this planet with incredible wildlife. There’s no guarantee future generations will be as lucky.
