UNICEF South Africa We believe in every child’s right to protection, health and education – so they can grow up strong and free, learn and succeed in life.

To learn more visit: www.unicef.org/southafrica With a strong presence in South Africa, UNICEF is a leading advocate for children. We have the global authority to influence decision-makers and the variety of partners at the grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind - to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child's path. UNICEF upholds the Convention of the Rights of the Child. We work to assure equality for those who are discriminated against, girls and women in particular. We work for the Millennium Development Goals and for the progress promised in the United Nations Charter. We strive for peace and security, and work to hold everyone accountable to the promises made for children.

Across South Africa, young people are rising up and calling for better access to affordable and nutritious food for themselves and under UNICEF's Fix My Food programme.

As a world-renowned musician and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Angélique Kidjo understands the power of using one's voice and words for real change.

She met with Fix My Food advocates at Constitution Hill, South Africa's home of human rights, hearing about their fight for better food systems and why we must all protect children and young people's right to health.

Good nutrition from pregnancy until a child's second birthday supports healthy growth, brain development and lifelong health.

Healthy food environments can protect breastfeeding and ensure nursing mothers have the support they need and access to nutritious complementary foods.

For a child facing severe malnutrition in Sudan, a simple sachet of peanut paste can provide the nutrition they need to recover.

Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) provides a balanced mix of proteins, fats, and vitamins that children with severe malnutrition need to regain strength.

In Sudan, conflict and displacement have made it harder for families to access the nutrition their children need. UNICEF teams are providing therapeutic food and essential nutrition support to children facing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).

Your monthly support can help UNICEF reach more children who need this care.

Across South Africa, girls are creating and changing their communities.

They are leaders, innovators and activists, not just for tomorrow, but right now.

But too many girls still face barriers: unequal access to quality education, violence, unintended pregnancy and limited opportunities.

We can break down these barriers by investing in girls and listening to them.

UNICEF South Africa is working with government, partners, communities and young people to make sure every girl can learn, stay safe, stay healthy and thrive.

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child.

At a Safe Park, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Angélique Kidjo spent time with children and saw firsthand how safe spaces can provide hope, care and a sense of belonging in vulnerable communities.

With support from UNICEF, Bophelong-Impilo provides children with nutritious meals, a safe place to play and learn, and access to care workers and social services.

For each of these children, feeling safe and protected is essential for them to grow, learn, and thrive.
