"I got my dignity back."

When our South African Ambassador, Tia, spoke at the VLU Avanté recently, most women in the room had never heard of a stoma. By the end of the morning, they were asking guestions, sharing laughs over the funny name Tia gave her stoma, and gaining a whole new understanding of life as an ostomate.

Before finding Footprints 2 Africa, Tia felt helpless trying to navigate her medical journey. Today, thanks to donated supplies she desperately needed, she is standing proud as a Stoma Warrior.
A stoma isn't the end of a life - it's the beginning of a new chapter.

A huge thank you to VLU Avante Chairperson Annette Bester for inviting Tia to speak on disability awareness, and to Regional Chairperson Heleen Richter and all the wonderful ladies for opening their hearts and welcoming our mission with such warmth.

Across South Africa and wider Africa, thousands of ostomates struggle to access the basic supplies they need. We save unused ostomy supplies from going to landfill in the UK and get them into the hands of people like Tia, helping them live with greater dignity, confidence and independence.

🌿 VLU Jakarandastreek Dagbestuur besoek Nuwe Hoop Skool vir Gestremdes 🌿
Die Dagbestuur van VLU Jakarandastreek het die voorreg gehad om Nuwe Hoop Skool vir Gestremdes te besoek. Karen Meyer het ons op 'n inspirerende toer deur die skool se verskillende fasiliteite geneem.
Ons was diep beïndruk met die salon waar leerders vaardighede in hare, naels, massering en versorging aanleer. Die volledig toegeruste houtwerkwinkels het ons verstom, waar pragtige houtprodukte met groot sorg en trots vervaardig word.
Dit is besonders om te sien hoe die skool daarop fokus om leerders met praktiese vaardighede toe te rus, sodat hulle dit ná skool kan gebruik om selfstandig en met selfvertroue die toekoms aan te pak.
Ons is ook hartlik ontvang en bederf met heerlike eet- en drinkgoed. As kosbare herinnering het elkeen 'n pragtige handgedraaide houtpen in 'n houtkassie, asook 'n unieke papier-maché skepping ontvang.
Baie dankie aan Karen Meyer, die personeel en die leerders van Nuwe Hoop vir julle gasvryheid en die inspirasie wat julle met ons gedeel het. Julle maak elke dag 'n betekenisvolle verskil! 💚
