Communities, young people, government representatives and partners came together in Mokhotlong, Lesotho, to strengthen collective efforts to address the interconnected challenges of HIV, gender-based violence (GBV) and unintended pregnancy among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

Through the ongoing China–Lesotho CIDCA Triple Threat Elimination Project, supported by the Government of Lesotho and the People’s Republic of China, partners are working to strengthen access to health information, youth-friendly services, counselling and support.

Addressing these challenges requires more than healthcare alone. It calls for communities where young people can access trusted information, seek support without fear of judgement, and make informed decisions about their health and futures.

Every girl deserves to grow up healthy and safe, stay in school and realise her full potential. By working together, we can help create the conditions for adolescent girls and young women to thrive.

TODAY, WE TAKE A STEP TOWARDS A SAFER FUTURE.

Today, partners, community leaders and young people come together in Mokhotlong, Lesotho, to advance efforts to address three interconnected challenges affecting adolescent girls and young women: HIV, gender-based violence (GBV) and unintended pregnancy.

Supported by the Government of Lesotho and the People's Republic of China, the China–Lesotho CIDCA Triple Threat Elimination Project promotes a coordinated response that strengthens access to health information, youth-friendly services, counselling and support.

Mokhotlong takes a step towards a safer future for girls and young women.

Tomorrow, community leaders, young people, health stakeholders and partners will gather in Mokhotlong, Lesotho, to reinforce collective efforts to address HIV, gender-based violence (GBV) and unintended pregnancy among adolescent girls and young women.

Together, we can strengthen access to health information, youth-friendly services, counselling and support. Every girl deserves the opportunity to stay in school, protect her health and realise her potential.

Meet the pioneers. đź’«

On 6 October 2026, the first cohort of UN-YES interns gathered at the UN-YES Partnership Extended Launch at UN House in Pretoria. Government, the private sector, academia and development partners joined 17 UN agencies to celebrate the milestone and explore pathways for youth empowerment and sustainability.

At UNAIDS, we are proud that one of these pioneers joined our team through the programme. Young people bring the fresh ideas and energy we need to build a stronger, more inclusive future, and to keep moving towards ending AIDS as a public health threat.

Last week, UNAIDS South Africa joined UNODC, SANPUD and COSUP to train 30 peer navigators on opioid agonist therapy (OAT) and harm reduction at Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital in Tshwane.

With OAT reaching only 5% of people who inject drugs, peer navigators are key to closing the gap. The 30 navigators will now support OAT and harm reduction at three sites in Gauteng under a UNAIDS project funded by CIDCA.

Sustaining harm reduction services as South Africa moves them into government ownership is key to keeping the HIV response on track.

We’re joining journalists from across South Africa at the two-day specialist training workshop focusing on long-acting prevention injectable - LEN. Understanding PrEP, meeting users of Len and what’s been their experience.

Strengthening reporting on HIV to raise awareness, inform and educate so we can make better choices to help end AIDS as a public health threat.
