🧡 Passive neglect of older persons is a serious form of elder abuse.
Passive neglect occurs when a caregiver fails to provide the basic care and necessities that an older person needs for their physical and mental well-being. This may not always be intentional, but it can still have harmful and sometimes life-threatening consequences.
⚠️ Examples of passive neglect include:• Withholding food, water, warmth, or medication• Failing to assist with basic hygiene or care• Abandoning an older person at home or in public
🚩 Warning signs to look out for:• Malnutrition or dehydration• Poor hygiene or dirty clothing• Unsafe or unsanitary living conditions
Older persons deserve respect, dignity, and proper care at all times. Recognising the signs of neglect can help protect vulnerable older adults in our communities.
