According to the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB), chernozem soils — some of the most fertile on Earth — are distributed across several major regions. Their presence is categorized by how much of the land surface they cover:
🔵 Dominant (more than 50% of soil cover)
Regions where chernozems strongly define the landscape, forming the backbone of agricultural production.
• Central & Southern Ukraine
• Parts of Russia (Southwest & Volga regions)
• Kazakhstan’s northern plains
🟢 Codominant (25–50%)
Areas where chernozems share the land with other soil types but still hold significant influence.
• Eastern Europe (Romania, Moldova, Hungary)
• Parts of Siberia
• Some prairie regions in Canada
🟡 Associated (5–25%)
Regions where chernozems appear alongside many other soil types.
• United States (Great Plains)
• Northern China and Mongolia
• Additional scattered zones across Europe and Asia
These fertile “black earth” regions support some of the world’s most productive agriculture — a natural treasure that continues to feed millions. 🌾🌍
