COUSA president, Mr. Moses Kibombo, together with members of the COUSA leadership and representatives of Ugandan communities across South Africa, met with the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, and H.E. Amb. Paul Amoru, Uganda's High Commissioner to South Africa.
The meeting focused on the welfare, safety and security of Ugandans living in South Africa, particularly in light of the recent attacks targeting foreign nationals and the growing concerns within migrant communities.
Leading the engagement on behalf of Ugandans in South Africa, Mr. Kibombo and community leaders presented the challenges currently facing affected Ugandans, including concerns relating to safety, livelihoods and the wellbeing of vulnerable members of the community.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker reaffirmed the Government of Uganda's commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and listened to concerns raised by the community leadership. Discussions also covered the detailed report submitted by the Uganda High Commission to Kampala, including recommendations aimed at addressing the situation. The Speaker pledged to follow up on the matter and ensure that Parliament works closely with the Executive through the appropriate government channels to pursue practical and lasting solutions for affected Ugandans in South Africa.
COUSA appreciates the continued engagement and support of the Government of Uganda and remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to safeguard the interests, welfare and unity of Ugandans living in Southern Africa.
