Scouts in Africa are ready for life!

Happy Africa Scout Day! As we celebrate the impact of Scouting in Africa, I find myself reflecting on the profound power Scouting continues to have in the lives of our children, youth and adult leaders.

Let’s be clear, Scouting is not just an extracurricular activity. It's a journey of personal growth and skills development. Our youth advancement programmes empower young people to build character, cultivate confidence, acquire social skills, and gain leadership abilities that are essential in every aspect of life. They are enabled to discover their potential, set goals, and develop the resilience needed to overcome obstacles at their own pace, in safe and supportive environments.

One of our core values is to help young people become active and responsible citizens. Through service, teamwork, and community engagement, Scouts step into leadership roles, make decisions, and contribute meaningfully to society and the Sustainable Development Goals.

When a child joins Scouting, they explore the world around them. As they grow up in Scouting, they develop an interest in lifelong learning, adaptability, and innovation – all qualities that are indispensable in today’s world. Scouting provides young people with leadership and personal growth, but it also equips youth with practical skills that are highly valued in the job market. Through activities such as first aid, outdoor adventures, teambuilding, and hands-on-training, Scouts and adult leaders develop critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. These are the very skills that employers seek, ensuring that Scouts are prepared to face the challenges of the ever-changing employment sectors.

Today, I congratulate our young members for working so hard to become the best versions of themselves. I also recognise and thank our team of dedicated volunteers. It takes hard work and lots of time to make this transformative journey possible. The skills you are teaching our young people ensure that in Africa, Scouts are ready for life!
