Yesterday, Umlambo Foundation hosted a truly remarkable celebration of the aspirations of the 1956 Women’s March, and what an experience it was.

This was much more than a Women’s Month gathering - it was deliberately structured around honouring the legacy of the 1956 women while asking what it means for women today to carry that legacy forward, particularly through education, science, leadership and opportunity. The programme brought together women leaders, educators, young people and representatives from education and industry, with strong emphasis on women as change-makers and on connecting education to employment.
That is the legacy of 1956. And it is a legacy we must continue to live, not only by remembering the women who marched before us, but by becoming the women who create opportunities for those who follow.
Through education, leadership, science, and opportunity, Umlambo Foundation remains committed to helping women and young people learn, aspire, lead and thrive.
Yesterday reminded us that when women lift one another, generations rise together.

Kicking off Women's Month by investing in women who are shaping the future. 💙

This August, Umlambo Foundation is celebrating the incredible impact of women in education by supporting 20 female Science teachers who have enrolled in the Short Learning Programme (SLP) offered in partnership with the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

The teachers recently attended their first in-person contact session at Fulufhelo Special School, marking the beginning of a journey that will strengthen their subject knowledge, enhance their classroom practice, and equip them with innovative approaches to teaching Science.

By investing in the professional growth of women educators, we are investing in stronger classrooms, inspired learners, and a brighter future for South Africa.

Here's to empowering women, advancing quality education, and creating lasting impact—one teacher, one classroom, and one learner at a time.

Celebrating a remarkable milestone!
Umlambo Foundation founder, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Warwick in recognition of her outstanding global leadership in advancing gender equality, sustainable development and social justice.
The honour is especially meaningful, as it comes from the very institution where she earned her PhD in Education and Technology. It is a full-circle moment and a fitting tribute to her lifelong commitment to creating a more just and equitable world.
Congratulations, Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka, on this well-deserved honour!

Strong foundations begin with empowered leaders.
This week, Umlambo Foundation's Impact Coaches facilitated a one-day workshop for 60 Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre Principals at Muratho Primary School, equipping them with practical knowledge and tools to strengthen implementation in their centres.

By investing in the leaders of early learning, we are helping create enriching environments where young children can develop the literacy, numeracy and life skills that set them up for future success.

Every empowered principal has the potential to influence countless young lives. Together, we're building stronger ECD centres, stronger communities, and brighter futures.

Although Mandela Day fell during the school holidays, learners from four schools came together on Monday, 20 July, to honour Madiba's legacy by dedicating their 67 minutes to making a difference.
They rolled up their sleeves and cleaned up the areas surrounding their schools, demonstrating that every small act of service contributes to a cleaner, healthier community.
