On the 16 March 2024 SAMIC President attended Cultural and Creatives engagement together President , the most important discussion was the concern regarding the copyright amendment bill and the performers copyright amendment bill.

and other senior members were at a sub-committee gathering of the AANC with the creative industry on Saturday.

African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general said the ruling party’s leadership will advise President not to sign the controversial Copyright Amendment Bill, he also mentioned that the President
Will be meeting with the creatives in April.

President of the South African Music Industry Council (SAMIC) Mr Vusi Leeuw joins Lerato Mbele , discussing the Copyright Amendmemt Bill.

In 2021, South Africa's High Court deemed the Copyright Act of 1978 unconstitutional for failing to accommodate the rights of visually impaired individuals. Subsequently, on September 26, 2023, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) approved the Copyright Amendment Bill. However, this bill has faced criticism from the creative industry, which argues it contains overly broad copyright exceptions that could weaken creators' rights. There are also concerns that the bill could limit contractual freedoms, potentially impacting South Africa's attractiveness for international creative projects.
