Groenkloof Feral Project is a volunteer-based, community-supported non-profit working to create a safer future for cats in and around Groenkloof, Pretoria. We focus on:

🏘 TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) to reduce the feral cat population humanely

🐾 Rescuing & taming feral-born kittens, giving them a chance at loving homes

❤️ Educating & partnering with the community to end the cycle of suffering

29 May marks a very special milestone for Maverick (previously Lui) — his sterilisation day! ✨

It's about changing the course of a life. 💛

It's about breaking a cycle.
It's about choosing a different future. 🌍🐾

Because where Maverick's story began was far from kind.

On 17 December, after several weeks of trapping in the area and following reports from a dedicated feeder who had spotted new kittens, we returned to the site once again. There, we found Maverick. He was so tiny, weak, and vulnerable sitting in between piles of rusted cans and broken glass.

A life of uncertainty had already been forced upon him before he even had a chance.

We cannot change the hardships he endured in those first weeks of life, but we can ensure that his story is not repeated.

Maverick's sterilisation is more than a milestone — it's a promise.

✂️ A promise of no more unwanted litters.
🐾 A promise of less suffering.
🤍 A promise of a future filled with safety, dignity, and love.

To the Lineker family, thank you for honouring your commitment and for giving Maverick the life every cat deserves. Because of you, his story is no longer one of survival, but one of hope. 🌟

A heartfelt thank you to the Malan family for opening your home and choosing adoption. Stillknocks (previously Jupiter) has truly found his happily ever after as a pampered little prince. 💖

Thank you for giving a rescued kitten the chance he deserved and for choosing adoption over shopping. Every adoption not only changes the life of the animal going home, but also creates space for another cat in need to be rescued. 🐾

Huge gratitude as well to Rachel for fostering him and giving him exactly what he needed to survive and thrive. Your love, dedication, and care helped transform a vulnerable little kitten into the confident, happy boy he is today.

Laula and Pumpkin (previously Oasis & Dune) have officially found their forever home! 🤍🏡🧡

After months of care, love, and patience, these two beautiful kittens have finally started their next chapter. While Pumpkin is still finding her confidence, she now has all the time, safety, and love she needs to blossom at her own pace.

A heartfelt thank you to the Le family for opening your hearts and home to Laula and Pumpkin. Thank you for choosing adoption, for giving a GFP older kitten a chance, and for opening your home to not one, but two rescue kittens. By adopting a bonded pair, you have not only changed two lives forever, but also created space for us to help even more cats and kittens in need.

We would also like to thank our incredible foster parents — Carla, Marcelia, Limor, and Chantelle. It truly took the Groenkloof Feral Project village to raise these two. From rescue to fostering, medical care, socialisation, and finally adoption, so many caring hands helped make this happy ending possible.

From First-Time Cat Owner to Best Friends Forever

A personal adoption story about the little black cat who changed everything.
The beginning of a forever friendship.
I never thought I would become a cat person.
In fact, I had never owned a cat before. I admired cats from a distance, but I never imagined sharing
my home — and my heart — with one. Then came this beautiful little black cat, with bright eyes, a
soft heart, and a personality far bigger than expected.
What started as an adoption quickly became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
From exploring every corner of the house, to finding the highest spot on top of the fridge, this little
soul arrived with curiosity, confidence and charm.
Cats have a way of choosing you. They do not rush into love. They build trust slowly, and somehow
that makes the bond even more meaningful. Today, my once-unexpected companion is my
shadow, my source of comfort, my daily entertainment, and without a doubt, my best friend.
Whether stretched out in the sunshine, curled up close, or demanding attention exactly when I need
a smile, this cat has brought more joy into my life than I ever expected.
I can honestly say that I will never look back.
Adopting a rescue animal does not just save a life — it changes yours. Mine certainly changed for
the better.
A special thank you goes to the foster parents who cared for my cat before we found each other.
Thank you for your patience, kindness, and commitment. You provided love, safety, and a bridge
between uncertainty and a forever home. Because of you, this beautiful little cat had the chance to
trust again and become the confident, loving companion I know today.
To anyone considering adoption: take the leap. You may think you are rescuing an animal, but very
often they end up rescuing a part of you too.
And as for me and my little black cat? We found exactly what we did not know we were looking for
— a best friend for life.
Adoption did not just give my cat a home. It gave me a best friend.

🐾Sterilisation Update ✂️🖤

Beanie & Flo (previously Sonny & Hayes)

On 22 January, we received an urgent request to help two tiny kittens, just 3–4 weeks old, who had been found alone in a field with no mother in sight.

Fast forward a few months, and these once-vulnerable little babies have grown into stunning much-loved family members. Last week, Beanie and Flo reached an important milestone and were sterilised, ensuring they will never contribute to the cycle of unwanted litters.

💬 Post-op update from their mom:

"It's going very well with them. It doesn't even look like they've had surgery. They were a little more sleepy yesterday but quickly got back to themselves. They're eating well, running around and playing. They are the dearest little things. They sleep with us every night on the blankets and are smothered with love."

Stories like this remind us why rescue matters. Two tiny kittens who once faced an uncertain future are now safe, healthy, cherished, and surrounded by love.
