We thought we were a baby house. We were. And then, very gradually and without asking permission, our babies became toddlers. This is the story of everything we did not see coming, including the potty training, which became a group sport.

A Tribute to all our Volunteers. 🫢🏼🫢🏼🫢🏼

Three years ago, Daybreak House opened its doors. What we could not have fully anticipated was the village that would gather around us. Swimmers, runners, cyclists, bakers, weekly visitors, and people who flew in from the other side of the world. This is our tribute to the people who showed up.

Some weeks are harder than others. This was one of those weeks at Daybreak House. And then we read what Suliztha wrote, and remembered why we do this.

This is about grace. Not the parking spot kind. The kind that shows up when you have nothing left and empty hands are all you have to offer.

Grace is bigger than good luck. Suliztha van der Walt reflects on what it means to run a baby home on empty hands and watch God show up, every single time.

Happy Birthday to our pappa Thinus!

Thinus, you are the quiet strength behind so much of what makes Daybreak House feel like home. You show up with steadiness, patience and a faith that does not waver, even on the hard days. The babies in our care are held and protected because people like you choose to keep showing up.

We are so grateful for the way you love this house, this team, and these little ones.

May this birthday be filled with everything that fills your heart, good fire, good company, and the deep peace of a life well lived.

Happy Birthday, Thinus. We love you! πŸŽ‰

It is Friday at Daybreak House.

Fridays are special here. Whenever our schedules allow, we gather for prayer. Not perfectly, not always, but as often as life in a busy house of babies permits. It is one of our favourite parts of the week.
So it felt right to start something new on a Friday.

From today we will be sharing a weekly faith reflection called Firstlight Fridays. Rooted in the same faith that carries us through the hard days and makes the good ones shine a little brighter. We hope it finds you wherever you are.

First post is live now.

El Roi. The God who sees. It is the name Hagar gave to God in the wilderness when she believed she and her child were utterly alone. It is the name that anchors everything we do at Daybreak House.

Some gifts arrive with perfect timing. The Anton Smit Sculptures standing in our garden are more than beautiful works of art. They are a testimony of generosity, faith, and the kind of grace that shows up before you even know how to ask for it. This is the story of how they came to be here.
