Emmanuel Taban Foundation To positively impact society through supporting the education and skills development of young people at secondary school level
(1)

The vision of the Emmanuel Taban Foundation is to positively impact society through supporting the education and skills development of young people at secondary school level, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential through access to better quality education than they would have otherwise had. South Africa and indeed Africa has a critical shortage of skills, especially amongst the youth

and it is this challenge that the foundation aims to address. The Foundation will endeavour to build networks and collaborations with like-minded organisations and individuals towards the achievement of these goals. Mission

Support education in the form of fund raising for scholarships and bursaries at secondary school level;
Support infrastructure projects that are in line with education;
Support in the form of learning materials for education purposes;
Mentorship and empowerment programs for learners at secondary school level;
Skills development programs for the young people, particularly in the technical and trade skills sector.

The Emmanuel Taban Foundation Student and Family Introduction Session

We recently held our student and family introduction morning where students, their families as well school representatives engaged in a relaxed environment where a wonderful meal was shared.

Mr. Peter Ross, board member and former deputy principal at Jeppe High School for Boys, shared how his paths crossed with Dr EM Taban, many years ago when Emmanuel first arrived at the Jeppe School. Dr Taban also shared his journey and the importance of education in the lives of young people while Mrs. Motheo Phalatse-Taban spoke on the work that the foundation has been involved in, thus far. She elaborated on the partnership between the Taban Foundation and the Sebenzeni for South Africa organisation, which is based in Faedo, Italy and was founded in memory of the late Bishop Giuseppe Sandri. This partnership has further expanded the reach of our work as we were able to take on two more students, Amantle Kgatitsoe and Uzziel Mcedane. She also shared updates on our past students, many of whom have gone on to study at institutions of higher learning, across the country.

This Business Book Club session reminded us that some stories do more than inspire they shift perspective.

A sincere thank you to our members and attendees for engaging so thoughtfully and making the discussion meaningful.

And a special thank you to Dr Emmanuel Malish Taban for sharing the powerful story behind 📚 The Boy Who Never Gave Up a journey of resilience, purpose, and the decision to keep going, even in the face of adversity.

Your story is a reminder that where we begin does not define where we can go.

We look forward to many more conversations that challenge, inspire, and connect us.

From Italy to Mpumalanga ...

A Legacy of Love Sparks Life-Changing Scholarships for South African Youth

A powerful international partnership—rooted in compassion, sacrifice, and an extraordinary human story—is set to transform the lives of young South Africans.

The Dr Emmanuel Taban Foundation has announced a landmark collaboration with Sebenzeni ODV, a respected Italian volunteer organisation based in Faedo, in the Trentino region of Italy. This historic alliance gives birth to two prestigious new scholarships aimed at uplifting and educating young people in Mpumalanga and beyond.

But this is far more than a funding announcement. It is a story of destiny, gratitude, and legacy.

Dr EM Taban recently had the honour of addressing the International Society of Travel Medicine ISTM CISTM19 conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States.

He shared his story about his journey from South Sudan to South Africa as a refugee and this resonated with the audience as many of them are providers of migrant health services.

It was an enriching experience, interacting with colleagues from across the globe and he was truly honoured by this invitation.

I’m truly honored to be speaking at the International Travel Medicine Conference in New Orleans on the 15th of May at 11:15 AM.

I will be sharing a 45-minute keynote on my personal journey — "The Boy Who Never Gave Up" — a story of resilience, purpose, and transformation.

Ahead of my talk, my book "The Boy Who Never Gave Up" will be available for sale and display on the 13th and 14th of May at the conference.

Grateful for this opportunity to connect with global leaders in travel and tropical medicine, and to reflect on the power of perseverance across borders and disciplines.

We welcome Terry-Leigh, one of our scholarships for 2025 ...

Terry-Leigh is a bright and determined young lady who has faced difficult circumstances in her childhood but has risen above them to achieve outstanding results in her primary school education. Having experienced a delay in the early stages of her education, due to a missed visual impairment, she quickly caught up academically and rose to become the top academic achiever in grade 6.

Dr EM Taban Taban recently had the honour of addressing the matric valediction ceremony for the class of 2024 at . He was warmly welcomed by the headmaster Mr Hassenkamp, the deputy headmistress Ms Holiday and the rest of the school management and staff.

He spoke on his life story, using the analogy of being on a train that journeys through life. There may be difficult and trying times that may tempt one to disembark or to accept a life of mediocrity but the perseverance to continue in pursuit of progress and excellence must must always be sought within oneself, underpinned and driven by passion for any endeavour that you undertake.

We were particularly inspired by Mr Hassenkamp’s message of hope for our beautiful country. If we all pull together and use our skills, resources and time, we can take South Africa to incredible heights that will benefit not only us, but future generations too.

We were reminded once again how immensely important it is to develop and invest in the youth, in order to realise the potential that they all possess.

We are grateful to Pretoria Boys High School for the invitation.
