STATEMENT ON UNIVERSAL DIGNITY AND PRINCIPLED ACTION - Ngizwe Mchunu
Issued by: Action for Social Justice International (AFSJI)
Action for Social Justice International proudly affirms that the most fundamental basis of our collective humanity is the universal right to dignity, safety, and respect. Before any distinction of age, gender identity, creed, or sexual orientation, every person is entitled to the full protection of their human rights, empowering them to thrive.
It is with profound concern and a deep sense of solidarity that AFSJI notes the persistent targeting and ill-treatment of the LGBTI+ community, whose members are vital to the fabric of our society. We declare our absolute intolerance for any form of discrimination or incitement to hate, and we are moved to action when these rights are deliberately undermined, standing firmly for justice and equality.
We specifically and formally condemn the recent homophobic and ethnically divisive campaign led by Ngizwe Mchunu and his associates. Their actions represent a deliberate attempt to weaponize prejudice, sow community discord, and erode the foundations of equality guaranteed to all citizens, which is utterly unacceptable.
AFSJI is unambiguous: We do not support, endorse, or tolerate any individual or group whose intent is to marginalize, discriminate against, or incite violence toward the LGBTI+ community. Such rhetoric is an assault on constitutional values and the collective moral compass we strive to uphold internationally. The promotion of hatred is not freedom of speech; it is a crime against humanity and must be treated as such, inspiring us to stand together against hate.
AFSJI extends its highest commendation to the Kwa Mai Mai Management and the law enforcement authorities for their principled and resolute intervention, a shining example of leadership and commitment to justice.
The swift, decisive action taken to expel the perpetrators—reportedly executed by the iZiNduna, the Elders, and nezi Nkabi—serves as a powerful, unambiguous declaration: Hate speech and mobilization are foreign to the spirit of this community and will not be granted sanctuary. This progressive response exemplifies leadership in upholding inclusion and unity, inspiring hope for a brighter future.
We reiterate our support to the oMama who operate within Kwa Mai Mai, recognizing them as the true custodians of cultural heritage and economic stability in the region. Their well-being must be secured against disruption by malicious external forces, ensuring their voices are heard and valued.
The LGBTI+ community deserves more than solidarity; they deserve unwavering accountability. AFSJI is encouraged by the resolve demonstrated this Pride Month and confirms its intention to closely monitor legal proceedings, particularly the forthcoming engagement at the Equality Court. Justice requires not only intervention but also formal consequences, paving the way for true equality.
AFSJI stands for Universal Human Rights, without exception, believing in a world where every individual can live with dignity and respect.
