This Youth Day, 16 June, we're celebrating the youth in our care... and trust us, we have plenty of youngsters to spoil! 😅

🐾 COMMUNITY NOTICE – REHOMING ASSISTANCE 🐾

We have received several requests today from people asking Paws Haven to assist with placing puppies, dogs, cats, and other animals currently in their care. We would like to explain how this process works.

Paws Haven is happy to assist with finding suitable homes for animals through our adoption process. However, we can only assist with animals located within our service area and community.

This is not a Paws Haven rule—it is a shelter regulation that we are required to follow. We are not permitted to take in or place animals from outside our designated area unless there is no animal welfare organisation or shelter serving that area.

We can, however, consider adoptions outside our area. In such cases, we must be able to communicate with a local SPCA, rescue organisation, or animal shelter that can conduct a home inspection on our behalf. While some organisations kindly assist us as a favour, others charge a call-out fee for this service, which is completely understandable as they also have operational costs and limited resources.

Please understand that this is not because we do not want to help. We simply need to ensure that every adoption is done responsibly and that proper home checks can be completed before an animal is placed.

We are completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to our puppies.

When we reached out and asked for help, you didn't hesitate. You went out of your way to make sure these little ones had exactly what they needed. From the puppy food, milk, starter food, treats and wet food, to the incredible cash donations totaling R4,100, every single contribution means the world to us.

We know that times are tough and that pet food and supplies are not cheap. That's why your generosity touches us even more deeply. Every bag, tin, treat and rand donated will go directly towards giving these puppies the best possible start in life.

To everyone who donated, shared our posts, checked in on the puppies, and supported us in any way – thank you. Your compassion reminds us that there are still so many wonderful people willing to help animals in need.

Because of you, these puppies will have full tummies, proper nutrition, and the care they deserve while they wait for their forever homes.

📢 NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC 📢 NO VET AVAILABLE ⚠️

Please take note that Paws Haven will not have a veterinarian available from 15 June to 30 June 2026.

During this period, we will still be able to assist with certain basic veterinary services, including:

✅ Nail clipping
✅ Removal of stitches
✅ Puppy and kitten vaccinations
✅ Minor ailments such as runny tummies
✅ Basic animal care advice

Should your pet require medical attention beyond what we can safely provide, we will gladly refer you to another veterinary practice for assistance.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

📢 IMPORTANT NOTICE – UPDATED ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS 📢

Please take note that, effective immediately, all adoption applications must be accompanied by:

✅ A copy of the applicant's ID document
✅ Proof of residential address
✅ Written landlord permission (if renting or leasing a property)

These requirements are standard practice and are being implemented to help us better protect the animals in our care.

Unfortunately, we have experienced difficulties in the past when trying to contact adopters regarding follow-up visits, sterilisation appointments, vaccinations, and welfare checks. Having accurate identification and address information allows us to properly follow up on animals adopted through Paws Haven and ensure that they receive the care they deserve.

For applicants who rent their homes, landlord permission is essential. We have seen many cases where animals have had to be returned because pets were not permitted on the property. In some situations, animals were being kept secretly indoors, which often resulted in inadequate living conditions and unnecessary stress for both the animal and the adopter. By obtaining written permission beforehand, we can help prevent these situations and ensure a successful, lifelong adoption.

These measures are not intended to make adoption more difficult. They are simply there to protect the animals and help us place them in safe, stable, and permanent homes.
