CACHET PARK CID: PUBLIC SAFETY RESPONSE

Cacahet Park CID Mooirivier Beskerming Reaction Officers and Public Safety Officers assisted with traffic control at the intersection of Rissik and Molen Streets following a fire at an electrical substation/distribution box.

The fire was initially spotted by CID CCTV operators, who immediately alerted the JB Marks Fire Brigade.

The Fire Brigade responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire, while CID personnel assisted with traffic management and helped keep the area safe during the emergency response.

Thank you to our vigilant CCTV operators, CID officers and the JB Marks Fire Brigade for the quick and coordinated response.

CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

The Cachet Park City Improvement District (CID) team is actively working to improve safety throughout the precinct through Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

Our teams are currently:

✅ Clearing overgrown vegetation in identified areas
✅ Painting and maintaining CCTV stations
✅ Repainting street names to improve visibility

By clearing overgrown areas, we are improving visibility and reducing places where criminal activity can occur unnoticed.

We are also maintaining our CCTV infrastructure and making street names clearly visible so that emergency services, residents and visitors can navigate the Bult and Cachet Park CID more easily—especially during emergencies.

We remain hard at work creating a cleaner, safer and more accessible precinct for everyone.

BUSY DAY FOR THE CACHET PARK CID PUBLIC SAFETY TEAM:

The Cachet Park CID CCTV Mooirivier Beskerming and reaction teams had a very busy and productive day protecting our community.

Through proactive monitoring and swift response:

Two knives were removed from two suspects, preventing these dangerous weapons from remaining on our streets.

A further suspect was detained after being found in possession of garden equipment suspected to have been stolen.

These incidents demonstrate the importance of visible patrols, effective CCTV monitoring and close coordination between our safety teams.

Cachet Park CID remains committed to creating a safer environment for our residents, students, businesses and visitors.

See it. Report it.

Campus Safety and Women's Month Joint Operation Conducted in Potchefstroom

As part of the South African Police Service's national Campus Safety Initiative, and in recognition of Women's Month, a multi-agency law enforcement operation was conducted in the Potchefstroom area on Thursday, 21 August 2026.

The operation brought together members of the South African Police Service, municipal officials, inspectors and other law enforcement stakeholders with the objective of promoting safety, strengthening compliance, and enhancing visible policing within the community.

A significant focus of the operation was placed on the Bult and Cachet Park City Improvement District (CID) area, where various businesses, buildings and public spaces were visited. Compliance inspections and awareness activities were undertaken to ensure that establishments operating within the precinct complied with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

The operation also formed part of the broader national Campus Safety Initiative, which aims to create safer environments for students, staff and visitors at institutions of higher learning across South Africa.

In support of Women's Month, members participating in the operation visited the North-West University Potchefstroom Campus, where they engaged informally with students on a range of crime-related topics. Discussions focused on personal safety, gender-based violence, responsible social behaviour, reporting of crime, and the importance of working together to create a safer campus environment.

Rather than formal presentations, the engagements allowed students and law enforcement officials to interact directly, ask questions, share concerns and discuss practical safety measures in a relaxed and approachable manner.

The operation further focused on immigration-related matters, liquor compliance, and the detection of illegal substances, while maintaining a visible law enforcement presence throughout the area.

Initiatives such as these demonstrate the value of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, businesses and the broader community. By working together, stakeholders can continue to improve safety, reduce opportunities for crime and foster a culture of compliance and accountability.

The South African Police Service and its partners remain committed to creating safer communities and campuses through proactive engagement, visible policing and ongoing partnerships with the public.

Visible street names and clearly displayed residential numbers are extremely important for first responders during an emergency.

When every second counts, paramedics, firefighters, police, and security responders need to identify the correct street and property immediately.

Missing, faded, damaged, hidden, or poorly illuminated street names and house numbers can delay emergency services when someone urgently needs help.

A few minutes spent searching for an address can make a significant difference during a medical emergency, fire, accident, or crime in progress.

Residents can help by ensuring that:

Street numbers are large, clear and visible from the road.

Numbers are not hidden by trees, walls or vegetation.

Numbers remain visible at night, preferably through lighting or reflective material.

Clear addresses save time. In an emergency, saving time can save a life.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

A huge THANK YOU to TORO Coffee Bar for generously sponsoring the paint, accessories and tools needed to refurbish the electrical substation on the corner of Esselen and Molen Streets.

What was once a derelict, dirty and neglected structure has been given a complete facelift and now contributes to a cleaner, safer and more cared-for precinct.

Projects like this show what can be achieved when local businesses and the Cachet Park CID work together to improve our neighbourhood.

Thank you, TORO, for investing back into the community and helping us make a visible difference.

Small improvements. Strong partnerships. A better Cachet Park.

A Big Thank You to the Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association!

The Cachet Park CID would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Potchefstroom Fire Protection Association for their valuable assistance today in cleaning the public ablution and toilet facilities at Cachet Park.

Using a high-pressure hose, the team helped give these facilities a much-needed deep clean, contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for everyone who visits the park.

This is another great example of what can be achieved when community organisations work together for the benefit of Potchefstroom.

Your willingness to lend a hand and support community initiatives is truly appreciated.

Thank you for your partnership and commitment to making our public spaces places we can all be proud of.

👏 Together, we are building a cleaner, safer Cachet Park.
