FAMSA Receives a Heartwarming Contribution from NWU Engineering 1st Year Students.

FAMSA was delighted to be the recipient of a meaningful community project carried out by the first-year Engineering students of North-West University (NWU).

As part of their community engagement initiative, the students reached out to FAMSA and generously donated canned food and stationery items, which will be used to support our clients and enhance our therapeutic services.

This thoughtful contribution will make a valuable difference in our work, particularly by providing much-needed stationery and resources for therapy and support programmes.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the NWU Engineering first-year students for thinking of FAMSA and for giving back to the community. Your kindness, generosity and willingness to make a difference are truly appreciated.

Thank you for reaching out to FAMSA and for helping us continue supporting individuals and families in our community.

Together, we can make a difference! 💙

ALL ABOUT PARENTING! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

We have been busy this year! Over the past few months, FAMSA has had the privilege of presenting various parenting groups across different communities, creating opportunities for parents and caregivers to learn, grow and share their experiences.

Parenting is one of life’s most rewarding, yet challenging, responsibilities. Through our parenting programmes, we aim to equip parents and caregivers with practical knowledge and positive skills that can strengthen relationships and contribute to healthier families.

The Core Importance of Good Parenting Skills

❤️ Emotional Regulation & Resilience
Positive guidance helps children learn how to manage their emotions, cope with mistakes, tolerate difficult situations and develop healthy ways of calming themselves. These skills build resilience that can benefit them throughout life.

📚 Better Mental & Academic Outcomes
Parenting that combines warmth, responsiveness and clear boundaries can support children’s emotional well-being, confidence and development, while also creating an environment that encourages learning and positive academic outcomes.

💬 Stronger Communication & Trust
Active listening and open communication help children feel heard, understood and safe. When children know they can talk to their parents without fear of judgment, they are more likely to seek support when facing challenges.

🌱 Autonomy & Responsibility
Giving children age-appropriate responsibilities, involving them in problem-solving and allowing them to make suitable choices encourages independence, confidence and mutual respect.

🔄 Breaking Harmful Cycles
Intentional and positive parenting can help families break unhealthy patterns that may have been passed down through generations. By replacing harsh or reactive discipline with constructive guidance, parents can create a healthier environment for their children.

Education is the Key! 🔑

At FAMSA, we believe that knowledge empowers families. By providing parents and caregivers with the right tools, information and support, we can help build stronger relationships, healthier families and more resilient communities.

A big thank you to all the parents, caregivers and communities who participated in our parenting groups. Together, we are investing in the future of our children – one family at a time. 💙

FAMSA Potchefstroom Holds Its Annual General Meeting

FAMSA Potchefstroom held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 19 August 2026, providing an opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s journey and achievements during the past financial year.

During the meeting, feedback was shared on the organisation’s financial year, including the challenges experienced along the way, as well as the many successes and meaningful services rendered to members of our community.

CHILD PROTECTION WEEK ❤️
Protecting Children, Empowering Communities

During Child Protection Week, FAMSA Potchefstroom placed the safety, well-being and protection of children at the heart of our awareness activities.
Our focus was on preventing child abuse, neglect and exploitation, while empowering children with the knowledge and confidence they need to recognise what is right and wrong and to understand that they have the right to feel safe and protected.
Children need to know that they are never alone and that help is available when they experience something that makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable or afraid. Teaching children about safe and unsafe situations, appropriate boundaries and trusted adults creates an important foundation for their protection.
At FAMSA, we believe that child protection is not only the responsibility of parents or professionals – it is a shared responsibility within our entire community. By educating children, supporting families and creating awareness, we can work together to prevent abuse and ensure that children have safe environments in which to grow and thrive.
❤️ The importance of child safety is at the heart of FAMSA.
Let us continue to listen to our children, believe them, protect them and empower them to speak up.
Every child deserves to feel safe, valued, heard and protected. 🌈💙

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES 2026 ❤️
Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing
On 15 May 2026, FAMSA Potchefstroom joins communities around the world in observing the International Day of Families under the theme “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.”
This year’s theme highlights how inequalities in income, education, healthcare and digital access can affect family stability and shape children’s opportunities and wellbeing.
Families facing economic hardship, limited caregiving support and unequal access to essential services may experience increased risks of child poverty, neglect and vulnerability. Supporting children therefore requires strong, caring and well-resourced families, as well as communities that work together to address inequality.
At FAMSA, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. This requires integrated support systems, including universal child benefits, parental leave, affordable childcare, early childhood education and accessible social protection services.
Strengthening families means investing in children and ensuring that no family is left behind. By supporting caregivers, reducing barriers to essential services and creating inclusive communities, we can help improve child wellbeing and build a more equitable future.
❤️ The wellbeing of children begins with strong, supported families.
Let us continue to listen to children, support families and work together to create communities where every child is safe, valued and given the opportunity to thrive.
Every child deserves a fair start, a caring family and a future filled with possibility. 🌈💙
