Die Doel van die vergadering is om terugvoering en ‘n oorsig aan lede en watergebruikers te gee oor die werksaamhede en finansies van die organisasie in 2023.

The purpose of the meeting will be to provide feedback on the functions and financials of the association to its members and stakeholders for 2023.

The Tshiping Water User Association (TWUA) is a cooperative association of individual water users who wish to undertake water related activities for their mutual benefit. The specific nature of the service that the TWUA provides is captured within the Constitution and the Business Plan of the TWUA.

Snakes are often misunderstood and feared, but they are also fascinating and beautiful creatures.

With our type of work, knowledge can be the fine line between life and death!

Magdel, may not yet have overcome her phobia of snakes, but will definitely now know how to handle it in a crisis situation. I, on the other hand, hope that bravado will prevail over me if the real Jacob unexpectedly appears before me.

Cleaning up a borehole - A first for TWUA.
Tree roots and other materials caused the logger to sink no deeper than 24m. In other words, no monitoring could take place as it did not reach the groundwater level. With ingenuity and willpower, the obstruction was successfully removed and the logger could be lowered.

June was another busy month for Tshiping Water User Association. 16 New water level loggers purchased from Van Walt Stellenbosch have been installed in the Kathu area on farms Curtis, Lomoteng, Fritz, Woon, Marsh, Sacha, and Kathu to monitor the movement of the groundwater table. Loggers were calibrated and installed by Magdel du Plooy (B.Sc. in Hydrology and Water Resources Management). The loggers take a data point every 24 hours and are manually downloaded and imported into WIMS every six months. For reference, WIMS is Tshiping's own groundwater management model where groundwater data (water levels, extraction, chemistry, etc.) is captured on over the entire area of 8000km². This includes the D41J and D73A catchments. Besides the loggers from the mines from which we receive data, Tshiping manages 53 loggers of their own.

With the freezing weather and rain at the start of the week, TWUA and All Solar Kathu defied all the elements and once again brought relief to the small farmers of Olifantshoek. With All Solar Kathu's expert craftsmanship, a Grundfos SQF 2.5 Solar Submersible Pump was installed in the borehole early yesterday morning, which can once again provide water freely to man and animals. The small farmers were desperately struggling to provide water to their animals for survival and had a hard time filling their own water jugs after a group of young children stole the previous submersible pump overnight.
Community members present showed their gratitude with wide smiles and bright eyes when the first water fell into the dam and I could hear someone say: "Nou loop die water styf die dam in."
