Free play is crucial for healthy child development because it allows children to lead their own activities, fostering independence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. By directing their own games, kids build confidence, learn to regulate their emotions, and develop social skills by negotiating and sharing with peers.

It’s been over a week of cleaning, spraying, drying out and cleaning some more ! All this whilst trying to keep to our normal routine. This flood was not nearly as bad as the last one last year but it still deposited mud everywhere and onto everything.

We have called a meeting with Bergrivier Municipality and Porterville Tentoonstelling and are hopeful that a drastic plan to prevent this happening again is put into place.

The long and short of it is our small river can not handle the volume of water coming down from the mountain to reach the mighty Berg River.

Today we celebrated World Bee Day 🐝🌼

Bees play such an important role in farming communities by helping crops, fruit, and flowers grow. They also teach our children valuable lessons about nature, teamwork, and caring for the environment for future generations.

Today we spent time learning all about bees and just how important they are. Many of the children were quite frightened of bees at first, but by the end of the lesson they were fascinated, asking lots of questions and wanting to learn more.

Our garden has been specially planted to attract bees, so we walked around together watching them hard at work. We also watched a close-up video about bees and how they live. Best of all — no one got stung and everyone went home smiling after learning about one of the most amazing little creatures in nature!

Protect the bees, protect our future 💛

Porterville Recreational Facility NPO 299-109 at the Porterville Showgrounds has flooded again, almost a year since the last major flood. Thankfully, there was not nearly as much mud this time, but the damage was still significant, with mud getting into absolutely everything. It will take days to get everything properly cleaned up again.

A huge thank you to these two special people who came to our rescue. We are beyond grateful for your help and support. This is exactly what living in a small community is all about — when your neighbour is in trouble, you show up and help, no questions asked, because you never know when you might need that same kindness in return.

True help comes without cost, conditions, or expectations. It comes straight from the heart, and it means the absolute world to those going through a difficult time.

We are so incredibly grateful 🙏
Thank you, GD, Johan & Kai ❤️
