*Crime Report*
*Date:* Sunday, 28 June 2026
*Time:* 08:18 AM
*Location:* Margery Road, Broadwood, Nelson Mandela Bay

*Incident Description*
At approximately 08:18 AM, a distress message was received via the Broadwood emergency group reporting a female screaming for help in Margery Road. Broadwood Afriforum Neighbourhood Watch (NHW), CityWide Security, Atlas Security, and ADT (Port Elizabeth Crime News & Community Information Centre) responded to the alert.

On arrival, responders found a female cyclist who reported that she had been robbed of her *black Momsen bicycle* (Momsen Bikes) and *cell phone*. The suspect was described as a slender-built Black Male wearing dark clothing. He struck the victim on the side of her head, causing her to fall. The victim was wearing a helmet, which prevented more serious injury. The suspect fled with the stolen items, possibly escaping over the railway line into Springfield.

*Response Actions*
- NHW immediately alerted Springfield patrollers, who conducted patrols and searches in the area.
- The victim’s daughter tracked the stolen phone, relaying a location in Walmer.
- Armed Response units, NHW patrollers, and SAPS were dispatched to Walmer location.
- Two NHW patrollers remained with the victim, administering first aid for wounds sustained on her arm and leg.

*Outcome*
- Only the smashed cellphone was recovered.
- It is suspected that the bicycle was disassembled quickly to avoid detection and recovery.
- The suspect remains at large.

*Victim Status*
- Minor injuries to arm and leg treated on scene.
- No hospitalization reported at time of incident.

*Notes*
- Investigation ongoing with SAPS involvement.
- Suspect description circulated to patrollers and relevant authorities.

⚡Following severe rain storms, municipal contractors worked around the clock on Friday 08/05/2026 to restore power to parts of Broadwood and Charlo. Broadwood Afriforum Neighbourhood Watch was on-site to assist, providing spotlighting from a patrol vehicle, spare torches when batteries ran flat, and even jumpstarting the contractor's vehicle after a long night. A massive thank you to the Justin Road residents for providing hot coffee and tea to the exhausted municipal team and patrollers. Teamwork makes the dream work! ☕🔦

Broadwood Afriforum Neighbourhood Watch stepped up during this severe weather we are currently experiencing in Port Elizabeth. The team prepared and delivered 60 warm meals to the CPF at Walmer Town Hall for those seeking shelter from the rain. 🍲A massive thank you to Superspar Mount Pleasant for your generous donation of the food containers! It’s amazing to see what we can achieve when we look out for one another. 🤝✨

🚨 Broadwood NHW National Patrol Success 🚨
Broadwood NHW kicked off its first National Patrol of the year on Friday evening with a strong, coordinated drive-through of Broadwood and Springfield.
A great turnout saw 27 vehicles and 36 members participating, with support from Broadwood NHW, Springfield NHW, Walmer CPF, Walmer SAPS, CityWide, Atlas, and ADT 👏
Springfield NHW established their own OPS for the remainder of the night, while Broadwood NHW set up an operations centre at Angela Road Park, maintaining a high-visibility presence throughout the evening.
💪 Thank you to everyone involved – your time and commitment make a real difference in keeping our community safe.

Broadwood Afriforum Neighbourhood Watch
would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all Neighbourhood Watch members, Afriforum Youth, and residents, who dedicated their time this morning to assist with clearing the bush in the Constance Road vlei.
Although we never worked the allocated times due to the most welcome rain, we completed clearing a large portion of the vlei. Your willingness to engage and support this initiative is truly appreciated.

As part of the Residents Association’s commitment to enhancing our neighbourhood, funds were raised to help cover the costs associated with the team scheduled to continue clearing the vlei this week. A sincere thank you goes out to the residents who contributed financially to this essential cleanup.

We also wish to acknowledge our generous sponsors who significantly eased the cleanup efforts:
• CityWide Security: Assisted with today’s activities and is sponsoring a team for the follow-up work next week.
• Talisman Hire - Port Elizabeth : Provided essential equipment, including a wood chipper, brush cutters, and a chainsaw.
• AfriForum Jeug : Thank you for the extra hands and congratulations on recruiting new members.
• Residents: Thank you to the residents who supplied refreshments for the occasion.
Special thanks to Gert, our Ward Councillor Ward 6 - Nelson Mandela Bay , for his help this morning, and for his support in facilitating this initiative with the municipality, which will handle the removal of all cleared bush.

The Broadwood AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch is dedicated not only to the safety and security of our community but also to service initiatives that enhance our environment, making it a cleaner and safer place for everyone.

Thank you once again to everyone who contributed in any way!

*Community Appreciation Constance Road Park*

I would like to introduce you to this group of absolute legends.

For some time now we have requested, pleaded and asked the municipality to attend to Constance Road Park, but unfortunately little progress was made.

Despite the weather and the conditions, these incredible individuals stepped up and took action.

Together we cleared a massive area of the park. Not once did anyone complain everyone arrived with smiles, simply happy to contribute and help maintain the standard we want for our area.

Yes, maintaining our public spaces is the responsibility of the municipality. But if we as residents do not sometimes step in and set the standard for our communities, it simply will not happen.

A big thank you to Broadwood AfriForum Neighbourhood Watch, Citywide Security, AfriForum Youth, Broadwood Rate Payers Association, Talisman Hire and the amazing residents who gave up their time to assist. Your willingness to serve the community is truly appreciated.

Unfortunately the weather forced us to stop for now, but we are definitely not done yet.

It is absolutely inspiring to have residents like this in our ward people who care enough to stand together and ensure our community maintains the standard it deserves.

Thank you for making our ward proud.

Regards
Gert
