ππ WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY & WORLD OCEANS DAY CELEBRATION RECAP ππ
What an incredible and educational day we had at the Motherwell Community Environmental Hub as we came together to celebrate World Environment Day and World Oceans Day!
Our day started bright and early with preparations, setting up our sound system, sponsor banners, and event space. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, AXXESS and EconoFoods. A special thank you goes to EconoFoods, who came through at the last minute and played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event.
Guests were welcomed into our Phase 1 Hall, where an exciting educational programme took place. Our MC guided the programme, followed by insightful presentations from Dr. Belinda Clark, who shared information about the Mosaic Project, and Mama from , who provided valuable information about cycling and its benefits within our communities.
One of the highlights of the programme was the interactive engagement with our young participants. The children enthusiastically shared their thoughts on the importance of the ocean, what they enjoy about visiting the beach, and the actions we can all take to protect our environment and marine ecosystems. These discussions reminded us of the strong connection between a healthy environment and healthy oceans, and how both contribute to our livelihoods and wellbeing.
The celebrations continued with a community mural painting led by artist and facilitator Tembi Simono. Community members, children, and partners joined together to add colour and creativity to the mural, leaving behind a beautiful symbol of environmental awareness and community pride.
The energy remained high as we moved into our entertainment segment, featuring performances by local artists Sammy Bee, Mambush Xakaxa , Zokuhle Nakase, who kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the afternoon.
Special thanks also to our photographer, Kamohelo Moalosi, for capturing the memorable moments of the day.
To conclude the event, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and refreshments generously sponsored by EconoFoods.
Overall, the day was a huge success filled with learning, creativity, community participation, and celebration. We are proud to have created a platform where people of all ages could learn about the importance of protecting our environment and oceans for future generations.
The event served as a reminder that protecting our environment and oceans is a shared responsibility. Through education, creativity, and community action, we can all play a role in building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, supported, and contributed to making this event a success. Together, we continue to make a positive impact in our community.
