Today we honour Youth Day - a reminder of the courage, voice, and resilience of young people who continue to shape a better future.

At APD, we recognise the importance of inclusion in every space where youth grow, learn, and lead. Every young person - regardless of ability - deserves equal access to opportunity, education, and participation.

When we remove barriers to inclusion, we unlock potential, creativity, and leadership that can transform communities.

Here’s to the youth who inspire change, challenge limitations, and remind us that the future is built on courage and possibility.

Wheelchair Wednesday celebrates 15 years of changing lives this year, with SPAR EC proudly serving as our naming sponsor for the 14th consecutive year.

Over the years, many faces have been part of this journey - some who have remained, some who have returned—but one thing has stayed constant: the lives transformed through mobility, dignity, and independence.

Through our annual Wheelchair Wednesday Campaign, wheelchairs have been donated to beneficiaries in need, awareness has grown, and our message has remained clear throughout the years: inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.

As we look back on how far we’ve come, we are reminded of the incredible impact made possible by the support of our community. From participants who have taken on the challenge, to partners who have helped spread the message, to every business and individual who has funded a wheelchair for someone in need—you have helped keep hope in motion.

To every volunteer who has shown up year after year, every sponsor who has made this campaign possible, and every person who has chosen to stand with us—thank you.

Together, let us continue our mission to provide mobility and independence where it is needed most.
Let us continue to make a difference.
Let us continue to stand for those who can’t.

This Learning Disability Week, we celebrate the unique strengths, talents, and potential of every individual.

A learning disability does not define a person's ability to dream, achieve, or make a meaningful contribution. With understanding, patience, and the right support, people with learning disabilities can thrive in education, the workplace, and their communities.

Inclusion starts with acceptance and grows through opportunity. By embracing different ways of learning, we create a world where everyone has the chance to succeed.

Let's challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, and build communities where every person is valued for who they are - not defined by the challenges they face.

Hello to a Brand New week. 🌼

Hello to a Brand New week. 🌼

Throughout the month of June, our Social Work Team will be travelling around the Bay and into our rural communities, delivering more than just wheelchairs - they're delivering mobility, dignity, independence, and hope.

Last week they were at the LoveLife Community Centre in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage and Westville, a small informal settlement in Dwesi, where every handover reminded us why we do what we do.

One moment that will stay with us forever was meeting a beneficiary who arrived in a wheelbarrow to receive her new wheelchair. It was also her 90th birthday. What an incredible gift, and what an incredible privilege to be part of such a special memory.

Every journey brings new stories, new friendships, and countless reminders of the resilience and gratitude found in the communities we serve. This is more than work - it is a calling. It is passion. It is people helping people, one life at a time.

To our dedicated Social Work Team: thank you for your unwavering commitment, your compassion, and your willingness to go wherever the need exists. You truly are ready to move for mobility.

And to every donor, sponsor, and supporter - this is the impact of your generosity. Every wheelchair funded creates moments like these and changes lives in ways that words can never fully capture. Thank you for making these stories possible.

People with disabilities face challenges every day, but they also live full lives, pursue goals, build careers, raise families, and contribute to their communities in countless ways.

Often, it is society's assumptions, fears, and misconceptions that create the biggest barriers. When we focus solely on a person's disability, we risk overlooking their strengths, abilities, and potential.

Instead of asking what someone can't do, let's focus on what they can do. Let's create environments that are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all.

Disability is only one part of a person's story - not the whole story. When we change our perspective, we open the door to greater understanding, opportunity, and inclusion.

For years, our community has come together to make a lasting difference through Wheelchair Wednesday.

Every donation, every sponsor, every participant, and every funded wheelchair has helped someone move forward with dignity and independence.

Now, it’s your turn to be part of the journey.

Join the movement. Help us roll out hope.

Treat every person with kindness, dignity, and respect.

A disability does not define someone's worth, potential, or purpose. Behind every face is a story of resilience, determination, and courage that you may never fully know.

Take the time to listen, to understand, and to see the person before the disability. You may discover a perspective that changes your own - or find inspiration in their strength and unwavering spirit.

The greatest lesson isn't in what someone can or cannot do. It's in the courage with which they face each day.

Choose kindness. Choose respect. You never know whose story will inspire your own.
