1st Walmer Scout Group

1st Walmer Scout Group 1st Walmer Scout Group, situated in Fordyce Road in Port Elizabeth, aims to develop youth membership of small groups under adult guidance.

Our youth training programme is an advancement system where Scouts are allowed to progress at their own pace. It allows for experiential learning and contributes to their personal development. Cub, Scouts and Rovers acquire Advancement and Interest Badges as part of their journey. By learning new skills and forming lasting friendships through the Scout programme, generations of Scouts have grown u

p to become some of our nation’s most outstanding leaders! Our methodology is a system of progressive self-education through:
- Our Promise and Law
- Learning by Doing. This takes place through result-driven, hands-on activities where Scouts can later evaluate what they have learnt. Learning by doing is far more meaningful, memorable, and long lasting and it deepens the understanding of concepts and mastering of practical skills.
- The Patrol System, i.e. This enhances involvement, progressive discovery and acceptance of responsibility, training towards self-government and the development of character, the acquisition of competence, self-reliance, dependability and capacities both to co-operate and to lead.
- Progressive and stimulating programmes and a variety of additional activities and projects based on the interests of the members, incl. games, useful life skills, services to community,
-Adventure. By creating challenging opportunities for the members to experience we strive to provide a platform for members to practice and develop skills in accordance with the aims of SCOUTS South Africa.

Supporting your child’s growth starts with understanding their Scouting journey. ⚜🌱

“How we Scout” is a practical guide created for parents to help you better understand what Scouting is, how it works, and the important role you play along the way.

Through adventure, challenge, and teamwork, Scouting helps young people grow into confident, capable individuals. Scouting children and youth are guided by dedicated adult volunteers—known as Scouters—who generously give their time, skills, and energy to support the development your child. And with the right support from home, that growth becomes even more meaningful.

Every child deserves to belong. 💙 Every child deserves Scouting.💜

As parents, we all wonder whether our children will find their place. A space where they are accepted, supported, and able to thrive. For families of autistic and neurodivergent children, that question carries even deeper meaning.

At SCOUTS South Africa, inclusion isn’t just an idea. It’s part of who we are. Through shared experiences, supportive peer groups, and values-driven programmes, young people are given the space to grow in their own way, at their own pace.

This , we celebrate the strength of diversity and reaffirm a simple truth: every child belongs in Scouting. ⚜

What an incredible morning spent with the team at NSRI! 🌊

Between learning, laughing, and a whole lot of wide-eyed curiosity, our Scouts had an unforgettable experience. Despite their demanding schedule, the NSRI team took the time to guide and teach, showing our Scouts just how far these skills can take them beyond school — and maybe even spark a few future rescue volunteers in the making!

This outing also helped us tick off key tasks for this year’s National Challenge (with plenty of fun along the way 😉). In a country where water safety is so important, we’re proud to see our Scouts building knowledge and confidence they can pass on to friends and family.

A big thank you and well done to Henry for making this happen — your initiative didn’t just organise an outing, it created a memory. The Scouts absolutely loved every minute! 👏

We kicked off Term 2 with excitement and energy! 🎉

After welcoming a new scout at their investiture, the troop jumped into a fun (and challenging!) blindfolded relay—putting their senses to the test without using their sight. 👀🚫

As our troop continues to grow, we’re embracing an exciting change… the addition of a brand-new patrol, the leopards 🐆!! Scouts took time to reflect on what it means to be part of the 1st Walmer family before meeting in their new patrols to sew on their badges.

The evening continued with observation skills, and we wrapped it all up with an epic glowstick challenge in our new patrols—full of teamwork, laughter, and adventure. ✨
