Excited to announce three new endorsements as we head into the festive season:

strives for the most conscious way of eating, producing and consuming. Their aim is to provide a welcoming, non -judgmental space for anyone striving to make healthier, more ethical, and eco-friendly choices in their daily lives, regardless of whether those choices are large or small. They also want people to better understand the origins of their meal and its path to their plate, and to make the world a peaceful, lasting place for all sentient beings.

has chosen to supply Cape Town with a sustainable solution to farmed salmon as it is no secret that our ocean is under attack. As a supplier, they are working together with consumers and making waves of change. Herbiraw is endorsing the Plant Based Treaty so our voice for the ocean can be louder! They state: “You can't change the world, but you can change how you live in it.”

is a plant-based Retreat Centre that loves our planet and all the sentient beings she is home to. They care deeply for the quality of peaceful and loving life that is the birthright of all sentient beings on earth. Further, they want to grow healthy hearts, minds and bodies through nurturing inter-species respect, nurturing trees, growing plants, doing art and fostering climate change.

Be sure to watch this space as we announce more endorsers in the New Year!

Plant Based Treaty City endorsements doubled in 2025

Dear friend,

What a year! Plant Based Treaty city endorsements have doubled in 2025, to almost 70. Proof that community organising and people power can influence cities to put plant-based food at the heart of climate action.

Highlights from the 2025 Plant Based Treaty city campaign:
🌱 Nijmegen (Netherlands) banned meat advertising in public spaces and launched the delicious, fully plant-based Nimma Sandwich in city canteens.
🌱 Groningen (Netherlands) set bold targets: 60% plant-based protein consumption across the city by 2030 (70% by 2050) and halving land used for animal feed.
🌱 Parla, El Masnou, Alcorcón, and Mataró in Spain joined the movement, adding plant-based policies into schools, procurement, and climate resilience plans.
🌱 Brampton (Canada) rolled out its Plant Based Treaty Action Plan: plant-based options at every city event and a city-wide plant-based awareness week that saw local cafés adding vegan ice cream and smoothies to menus.
🌱 Culver City (USA) is committing to plant-based education for residents and to offering plant-based options at city events.

The attached photo portrays Plant Based Treaty's Food Transition Day in Madrid in March 2025 with MPs, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, and former Danish Minister of Agriculture.

These wins didn’t happen by accident; they happened because supporters like you powered hundreds of teams and thousands of volunteers around the world.

Will you donate the equivalent of just one hour of your monthly salary to support the Plant Based Treaty? With your support, we can train and support campaigners on the ground and bring the plant-based transition into city halls and climate negotiations.

This holiday season, your gift will go twice as far. One generous donor is matching every donation we receive until the end of 2026, doubling your impact.

Plant Based Treaty SA hosted a vibrant stall at the Planty, Bru vegan market in Gqeberha this September, connecting with locals around sustainable food systems and accessible plant-forward living. The team shared resources, answered questions, and sparked meaningful conversations about the Treaty’s goals, all while engaging with a community already passionate about compassionate and climate-friendly choices.

In October Plant Based Treaty South Africa took part in the Ecolution Festival at with an engaging, child-friendly workshop designed to spark curiosity about plants and plant-powered eating among children from local communities.

The session included a fun blindfolded tasting challenge where one enthusiastic participant sampled a range of affordable, delicious plant-based snacks and foods, discovering new flavours through the senses.

To round off the experience, South Africa generously sponsored a fully plant-based lunch featuring their popular nuggets and burgers, giving the children a tasty, practical example of how accessible and enjoyable plant-based meals can be.

We call on the European Parliament and all EU policymakers:
❌ Reject this unnecessary and harmful ban.
✅ Protect consumer choice and transparency.
🌍 Support Europe’s transition to healthier, sustainable diets.

Plant-based eaters, flexitarians, meat-reducers, and everyone who cares about climate or animal welfare—this is our fight.

👉Add your name to say: Hands off our veggie burgers. Stop the ban on “meaty” words for plant-based foods!

The climate crisis is real - but so is our power to change course. By rethinking what’s on our plates, we can reduce emissions, fight hunger, improve human health, promote justice, and build resilient communities. It’s not just about what we’re up against - it’s about what we’re capable of. And the good news is that the Plant Based Treaty offers us a roadmap to a better future.

Let's BE the change - together!

The climate crisis is real - but so is our power to change course. By rethinking what’s on our plates, we can reduce emissions, fight hunger, improve human health, promote justice, and build resilient communities.

Yesterday was World Food Day.

Think about what that means. Think about the power we each have, by carefully, mindfully, compassionately, choosing what foods we eat and how we grow them.

These choices matter, more than most people think.

We are part of the problem, as much as we can be part of the solution.

Our future, is in our hands.

Endorse the Plant Based Treaty. For healthier humans, and a thriving planet.

Heritage Day in South Africa is a celebration of the nation’s diverse cultures, traditions, and shared identity, often expressed through food.

While braais and meat-heavy meals have long been central to the day, there is a growing shift towards embracing more sustainable and health-conscious plant-based dishes that honour local crops and culinary heritage.

Indigenous foods such as sorghum, millet, beans, leafy greens, and traditional root vegetables not only reflect the richness of African food traditions but also offer climate-friendly and nutritious alternatives that support food security.

By reimagining Heritage Day menus to highlight these plant-based staples, South Africans can celebrate their heritage while cultivating a healthier and more compassionate future for humans and non-humans, and a a thriving planet.

Wishing you all a wonderful, sustainable and compassionate Heritage Day! 🌍🌱💚
