The Grey community mourns the passing of Mr Andrew James Grey Lang, who passed away peacefully on 3 November 2025 at the age of 94.

Born in the Grey Rectory on 26 July 1931, Mr Andrew James Grey Lang’s connection to Grey High School began at birth and continued throughout his life. The son of Rector James Lang (1928 to 1942) and Mrs Annie Lang, both deeply devoted to the school, Andrew carried their legacy with quiet pride and lifelong affection.

A member of the Class of 1948 and a former Head Boy, he embodied the Grey spirit in every sense as a scholar, leader, advocate, and gentleman. His later career as a Senior Lecturer at Rhodes University and as a respected advocate reflected the values instilled in him at Grey.

In July this year, it was a privilege for Grade 10 learner Joel Horak from Lang House to meet and share a special moment with Mr Lang during his visit to the school.

We extend our sincere condolences to Mrs Lang, their children, and the Lang family. The Grey community will remember Mr Lang for his warmth, wisdom, and the enduring legacy of his family’s service to The Grey.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at 11:00am at Christ Church, 2 Speke Street, Grahamstown.

We honour the life of Craig Jessop, a proud Grey Oldboys who matriculated in 1987 and wore the 1st XI cricket cap with commitment and heart.

Craig’s connection to The Grey did not end at school. From 2016 to 2020, he served faithfully on the Grey High School Governing Body, offering wise counsel and giving generously of his time, particularly in guiding the school on legal matters. His quiet dedication and steady presence made a lasting difference.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Sharon, his son Josh, and to all who loved him. Craig will be remembered with respect and appreciation by the Grey community he served so faithfully.
