As CANSA marks its 95th anniversary, Cancer Survivors Month is an opportunity to focus not only on cancer awareness, but also on life beyond diagnosis.

For many survivors, the challenges continue long after treatment ends, including physical, emotional, social and financial impacts. CANSA believes survivor support is an essential part of cancer care.

In addition to awareness campaigns, and screening services CANSA provides a range of support services, including telephonic and virtual counselling, face-to-face and virtual support groups, Information and Support desks at public hospitals, stoma support, wigs and prostheses, medical equipment loans, home-based care guidance, educational resources, affordable cancer screening and advocacy support for people experiencing barriers to care or delays in accessing treatment.

As part of the June campaign, CANSA invites survivors to download the ‘Bring Hope | Inspire’ poster, add a personal message and share it on social media, encouraging and inspiring others affected by cancer.

More than just a place to stay, CANSA’s eight Care Homes are places of hope, comfort and connection. For patients travelling far from home for life-saving cancer treatment, these homes provide a welcoming space, nutritious meals and reliable transport to treatment centres – removing some of the biggest barriers to care. In the last financial year alone, more than 2 000 patients found support at a CANSA Care Home, helping them stay focused on what matters most: completing their treatment journey with dignity and strength.

On World No To***co Day (31 May 2026), the South African NCDs Alliance (SANCDA+) joins the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Department of Health (South Africa), civil society partners, and communities across South Africa in raising awareness under the theme: "Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction."

Behind colourful packaging, appealing flavours, social media marketing, and products such as e-cigarettes and ni****ne pouches lies a serious public health concern: addiction.

The to***co and ni****ne industry continues to target a new generation of users, particularly children and young people, by presenting harmful products as trendy lifestyle choices. These tactics threaten decades of progress in to***co control and disease prevention.

Founded by CANSA, Diabetes South Africa, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa, SANCDA+ remains committed to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and supporting stronger measures to protect public health.

To***co use and ni****ne addiction remain major contributors to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, and premature death.

The best way to beat addiction is to prevent it before it starts. Protecting young people from ni****ne addiction is one of the most important investments we can make in South Africa's future.
