🖤💛 JUNE IS MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH MONTH 💛🖤

For too long, many men have suffered in silence, believing they must carry every burden alone. The truth is that strength is not found in pretending everything is okay—strength is found in seeking help, speaking up, and taking care of yourself.

This month, Doxa Family Care encourages men to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being. Healthy men build healthy families, healthy workplaces, and healthy communities.

✅ It’s okay to talk about your feelings.
✅ It’s okay to ask for help.
✅ It’s okay to rest.
✅ It’s okay to not be okay.

Let’s challenge the myths, break the stigma, and create spaces where men can heal, grow, and thrive.

A strong mind builds a strong man. A strong man builds a stronger family. A stronger family builds a stronger community.

Your mental health matters. Your story matters. Your life matters.

🔥 TURN THE TIDE YOUTH CONFERENCE 2026 🔥

Theme: BE MORE

Fifty years after the courageous youth of 1976 stood up and changed the course of history, a new generation is being called to rise.

This is more than a conference. It is a movement.

Join hundreds of young people from across Nelson Mandela Bay for two transformational days of inspiration, learning, leadership, and empowerment as we explore what it means to BE MORE than our circumstances, fears, limitations, and challenges.

Together we will engage in powerful conversations on:

🤖 Artificial Intelligence & Technology
🧠 Mental Health & Emotional Wellness
💼 Entrepreneurship & Innovation
🌍 Leadership & Social Change
🚀 Purpose, Influence & the Future of Youth

As we honour the legacy of 1976, we also look ahead to the future we are called to build.

Don’t just remember history. Help write the next chapter.

Executive Director of Doxa Family Care, Mr Thembani Gqiba, delivering a powerful message of support during the International Day of Families commemoration organised by the Department of Social Development at Soweto Multipurpose Centre in Zwide.

Speaking under the theme “Families, Inequalities and Child Well-being,” Mr Gqiba challenged men and fathers to recognise their critical role within families and communities. Using the powerful illustration of “a man as a tree in the community,” he emphasised that when men are emotionally healthy, rooted in values, and present in their homes, families become stronger and children are able to thrive.

He spoke about the importance of healing men from trauma, violence, hopelessness, and emotional silence, reminding fathers that children need more than financial provision — they need love, guidance, presence, affirmation, and protection.

The message encouraged men to become pillars of stability, positive role models, and safe spaces for their families, especially in communities facing poverty, inequality, substance abuse, and violence.

“A healthy tree provides shelter, stability, and life to everything around it. In the same way, healthy men build healthy families, and healthy families build healthy communities.” 🌳

Today, Doxa Family Care continued its impactful Human Rights Club sessions at Vulumzi High School in Motherwell with Grade 8U and 8N learners under the theme: “Introduction to Human Rights and Child Protection.”

The session was learner-led, highly interactive, and filled with meaningful participation throughout the recap discussions, group reflections, and activities. Learners actively engaged in defining human rights, understanding responsibilities, identifying safe and unsafe environments, and discussing child protection and trusted adults they can approach when feeling unsafe.

What stood out most was the confidence and ownership shown by the learners as they openly shared their views and experiences. The atmosphere was warm, energetic, and deeply encouraging.

The session ended on a beautiful and emotional note, with learners expressing appreciation for the engagement through hugs, handshakes, and joyful interactions — a true reflection of how meaningful and impactful the session was for them.

A special appreciation to our dedicated team:
• Thoba Dema – Social Worker
• Sisipho Selani – Social Auxiliary Worker & Program Coordinator

Their passion, professionalism, and heart for young people continue to create safe spaces for learners to learn, reflect, and grow.

At Doxa Family Care, we remain committed to building informed, protected, and empowered young people within our communities. 💙

Today we celebrate a significant milestone for the Doxa Men’s Shelter as we received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Minister of the Department of Social Development.

This recognition is not just for Doxa, but for every survivor who found safety, every staff member who served with compassion, every partner who believed in the vision, and every community member who continues to stand against Gender-Based Violence.

For years, we have carried the belief that men also deserve spaces of healing, restoration, accountability, and hope. This certificate reminds us that the work matters.

We remain committed to restoring dignity, strengthening families, and building safer communities.

“Bethe light.”

Today, Doxa Family Care, in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, hosted a powerful and timely Freedom Day Lecture 2026 under the theme:
“Freedom Beyond 1994: Healing Families, Restoring Generations.”

As we mark 30 years of democracy, we were reminded that while political freedom has been achieved, many families are still navigating the deep wounds of the past—broken systems, trauma, and instability.

Through insightful contributions from Advocate Freeman, Mr Mabhuti Dano, and Thembani Gqiba, the conversation challenged us to move beyond celebration and commit to restoration, responsibility, and action.

The message was clear:
Freedom must be experienced at home.
