When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family begins a different journey.

Parents carry fear alongside practical pressures. Siblings may feel confused, frightened or forgotten. Work, school, transport, meals and sleep can all become more difficult.

Support is not only about medicine. It can be a safe place to rest, a meal during a long day, a comfortable chair beside a hospital bed, clear information, a listening ear or the reminder that you do not have to carry everything alone.

No child and no family should have to navigate this journey without a community beside them. This is why Siyavuka for Kids exists.

On Friday, members of the Siyavuka for Kids Exco joined our Pass the Ribbon campaign and shared why they are passing the ribbon. 🎗️

Each ribbon carries a message of awareness, support and hope for children with cancer and their families.

We are passing the ribbon because no child or family should face this journey alone. Now it’s your turn to help us keep the message moving. 💛

Childhood cancer can be difficult to spot, as many of the warning signs may seem like common childhood illnesses or injuries.

Knowing the S.I.L.U.A.N warning signs can help parents and caregivers recognise when something may need further attention:

🔸 **S** – Seek medical help early for ongoing symptoms
🔸 **I** – Eye changes, including a white spot, new squint, sudden blindness or a bulging eye
🔸 **L** – A lump on the stomach, pelvis, head, arms, legs, testicle or glands
🔸 **U** – Unexplained fever, weight loss, fatigue, paleness, bruising or bleeding
🔸 **A** – Aching bones, joints or back, or easy fractures
🔸 **N** – Neurological changes affecting walking, balance or speech, regression, persistent headaches, vomiting or an enlarged head

These symptoms do not necessarily mean that a child has cancer, but persistent, unexplained or worsening symptoms should always be assessed by a healthcare professional.

A birthday celebration with a little extra heart. 💛
