We’re resharing these important videos from the dedicated staff of the M3 Ward at Provincial Hospital, who are helping to raise awareness around the early signs and symptoms of childhood cancer.

Please take a few minutes to watch these videos carefully and familiarise yourself with the symptoms they highlight.

As parents, caregivers, family members, teachers and members of our community, being informed and knowing what to look out for is important.

You are surrounded by people who care. 💛

On the hardest days, it can be difficult to see beyond the fear, the uncertainty and the next hospital visit.

But you are not walking this journey alone.

There are doctors and nurses caring for your child.
There are family members and friends holding you close.
There are volunteers, donors and supporters choosing to stand beside you.
There is a community believing in brighter days with you.

Sometimes support is practical. Sometimes it is a kind word, a shared meal, a comforting hug or simply someone saying, “I’m here.”

At Siyavuka for Kids, we want every child facing cancer and every family beside them to feel surrounded by compassion, courage and hope.

Because no family should have to carry this journey alone.

You are seen. You are supported. You are surrounded by people who care.

Childhood cancer can bring fear and uncertainty.

It can change routines, plans and everyday moments in an instant. It can ask more of a child and their family than they ever imagined they would have to give.

But no child and no family should have to face it without hope — or without a community beside them.

Hope can be found in the smallest moments: a smile on a difficult day, a hand to hold, encouraging words, good news, compassionate care, or simply knowing that someone is there.

At Siyavuka for Kids, we believe in standing alongside children and families throughout their journey — surrounding them with care, compassion, courage and hope.

Because when a community comes together, no family has to feel that they are walking this road alone.

For a child facing cancer, hope can mean many things.

Hope can be a smile on a difficult day.
A hand to hold.
A moment of laughter.
A family feeling supported.
A caring healthcare professional.
A community choosing to stand beside them.

Tomorrow is going to be a very sad day for all of us at Siyavuka for Kids 💛

As we say goodbye to our dear Estelle, we invite those who are unable to attend in person to join us online and share in her memorial service.

It is with profound sadness that Siyavuka for Kids mourns the passing of our valued EXCO member, Estelle Ellis.

Estelle’s passing is an immense loss, not only to our organisation, but to society as a whole. She was a deeply caring and courageous investigative journalist who used her voice and her writing to expose injustice, defend the vulnerable and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

She was a passionate advocate for the rights and dignity of children, including those receiving care in the Paediatric Oncology Ward at Provincial Hospital. Her compassion extended far beyond our organisation, touching children and people from all walks of life.

Just last week, Estelle proposed two new Siyavuka for Kids projects aimed at restoring dignity to people facing serious illness. This was who she was: always thinking of others and always looking for ways to help.

Her compassion, courage and commitment to justice leave a lasting legacy.

We will miss her deeply and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and all whose lives she touched.

Rest in peace, Estelle. Your work made our society better, and your impact will never be forgotten.

Knowing what to look for can help a child receive medical attention sooner.

The St Siluan warning signs include persistent tiredness, unexplained fever, weight loss, unusual bruising, growing lumps, bone pain, changes in vision and recurring infections.

One symptom does not necessarily mean that a child has cancer. The concern is when symptoms are unexplained, unusual or continue despite treatment.

Save this post and share it with another parent, teacher or caregiver.

Childhood cancer can be difficult to recognise because many early symptoms may look like common childhood illnesses.

The important thing is to notice when something is unusual, unexplained or simply does not get better.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing information to help parents, caregivers, teachers and communities recognise possible warning signs and understand what to do next.

Most symptoms will not be cancer. However, if cancer is suspected, early referral and treatment can save lives.

Please follow and share this campaign. The information you pass on could help a child receive care sooner.

A heartfelt thank you to BAIC South Africa for their incredibly generous donation to Ward M3 at Provincial Hospital.

These photographs capture the recent cheque handover, but the true impact of this donation will be felt for a long time to come. It will help provide much-needed support and resources to the ward, bringing greater comfort and care to the many children and families who pass through its doors.

We are deeply grateful to BAIC South Africa for believing in the work of Siyavuka for Kids and for helping us make a meaningful difference where it is needed most. Together, we are bringing hope to children facing some of life’s greatest challenges. 💛
