The Business Place was contracted to the Department of Economic Development and Tourism – EDTA to support many Small to Medium Mandela Metro Entrepreneurs develop their business ideas into a start-up SME businesses, while also coaching others to transition established SME’s to scale and take up bigger opportunities. The Business Place will close its three enterprise development centres by 30 November 2024, because our contract with the Metro ends at the end of Nov 2024.

The Business Pace SMME delivery team wish to thank the Nelson Mandela Metro, the EDTA management and the Mayoral Committee for this Enterprise Development partnership opportunity. We congratulate the Metro as our public sector leader who enabled the environment, the private sector for funding in partnership with the Business Place service offering as a Non-Profit partner to unlock opportunities for the Metro’s SMEs over the last 8 years. We also wish to thank the IDC for its seed finance through the Social Enterprise Fund, which unlocked continued funding from the Metro and support from the private sector. It delivered a Mandela Metro SMME future where all partners won. The real beneficiaries were the Metro’s thousands of Small, Micro and Medium businesses across the Nelson Mandela Bay area.

We write to regrettably inform you that our contract ends on the 30 November 2024. The Business Place has not been informed how the programme of support to SME will continue at the end of the contract, nor whether a tender will be published for a new service provider to continue these important SMME support services. We are mindful that the EDTA will provide guidance to existing and prospective SMME’s on how the programme will continue in the future.

The Business Place SMME delivery team has no alternative but to close our three Enterprise Development Centres by 30 November 2024, compliant with our SLA and partnership agreement. As of 30 November 2024, The Business Place will no longer be able to provide Enterprise Development services to our SMME clients.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support and trust in services offered by The Business Place. It has been our pleasure to be at the service of the Metro, through its EDTA, team to assist you on your business journey. We are proud of your work and what you have achieved notwithstanding the SMME constraints you encountered and how you resolved it.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to partner with, and serve you.

We wish you continued success in your business endeavours.

Yours in SMME Development.
