On Saturday, members of the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South visited one of the Forever Family Homes units and delivered beautiful, warm beanies for the little ones.

We were deeply touched by the love, care and compassion that surrounds each child in their care.

A simple act of kindness can restore so much more than hearing.

For one remarkable woman living with profound hearing loss, a functioning cochlear implant is far more than a medical device. It is her connection to family, friends, work, and the world around her. Without it, everyday conversations become a challenge, safety is compromised, and even something as ordinary as navigating traffic becomes a frightening experience.

This is the true spirit of Rotary in action.

Through the incredible collaboration of Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South, Rotary Club of East London, and APD, together, we have shown that when communities unite with compassion and purpose, a life has been changed by restoring not only hearing, but confidence, dignity and hope.

WORLD DROWNING PREVENTION DAY: SATURDAY 25 JULY; HUMEWOOD BEACH

Today, the NSRI and the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South united at Humewood Beach to turn drowning prevention awareness into meaningful action.
Through survival swimming education and hands-on CPR training, members of the community gained practical, life-saving skills and the confidence to respond in an emergency. Every lesson shared today has the potential to save a life tomorrow!
A heartfelt thank you to the NSRI for their professionalism and dedication, to the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South for joining in this important initiative, and to every member of the public who attended and embraced these invaluable lessons.

ROTARY CLUB OF PE SOUTH DISTRICT 9370 PROJECT VISIT 2

ZANETHEMBA CHARITY FOUNDATION
The next visit of DG Gobel and DMC Pietrucci was to the Zanethemba Foundation, a haven for abandoned, abused and neglected children between the ages of 0 and 6 years.
Here, our two distinguished visitors did far more than simply tour the facility—they immersed themselves in the lives of the little ones, offering warmth, affection and genuine care.
In our mind's eye, we can still see DG Gobel cradling one of the babies in her arms, gently speaking to him. In that precious moment, we truly believe he felt her unconditional love and, perhaps for a fleeting instant, the reassuring certainty that he belonged—that he was valued, cherished and safe.

Meanwhile, District Membership Chair Michele Pietrucci sat comfortably on the floor, surrounded by eager little artists. With pens, paper and highlighters spread before them, the children scribbled and sketched with infectious enthusiasm. One remarkable three-year-old boy especially captivated us with his confident pencil grip and impressive ability to form recognisable shapes—a beautiful reminder that, with love, encouragement and opportunity, every child has the potential to flourish.
As our visits drew to a close, the time came to bid these two extraordinary ladies farewell and es**rt them to their nearby accommodation. Their visit left an indelible impression on our hearts.
We believe that under the leadership of District Governor Dr Melonie Gobel, supported by District Membership Chair Michele Pietrucci, the future of Rotary in our District shines brightly with compassion, purpose and hope!

ROTARY CLUB OF PE SOUTH PROJECT VISITS BY DISTRICT 9370 VISIT 1

YOKHUSELO HAVEN
On Wednesday, 22 July, DG Dr Melony Gobel and DMC Michele Pietrucci, visited two of our long-standing community projects: Yokhuselo Haven, a sanctuary for abused women and children, and Zanethemba Haven, which provides a place of safety and hope for abandoned, neglected, and abused children from birth to six years of age.

At Yokhuselo Haven we witnessed a remarkable story of courage, resilience, and hope. We met a young mother who had arrived at the shelter some years ago with her little daughter, carrying nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Having endured severe emotional and physical abuse, they found refuge, compassion, and unwavering support from the dedicated Yokhuselo team.
Today, that same mother has rebuilt her life. She and her daughter now live safely in a lovely house, she has secured full-time employment, and her daughter is thriving at school! Their journey is a powerful reminder that, with love, support, and opportunity, lives can be transformed.
The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South was humbled to see the positive impact of its contributions to Yokhuselo Haven. Among the improvements made, are a roof constructed over the children's play area, providing welcome protection from the elements, and a vibrant artificial grass play surface beneath the swings and slides, replacing what was once an uneven, rocky area with a safe, colourful space where children can play freely and confidently.
Visits such as these remind us that Rotary is about far more than projects and infrastructure. It is about restoring dignity, creating opportunities, and giving hope where it is needed most.

INDUCTION OF A NEW MEMBER

The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South was privileged to welcome a new member into its Rotary fold during the official District visit of District Governor Dr Melonie Gobel.
Congratulations to Jeandré de Wet on her induction as a Rotarian by District Governor Dr Gobel, marking not only her membership of the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth South, but also her place within the worldwide family of Rotary International.
Mrs de Wet's induction was witnessed by her family, who shared this memorable occasion with fellow Rotarians. Together, they warmly welcomed her into the club, where she embarks on a journey of fellowship, service, leadership, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jeandré and wish her every success and fulfilment as she embraces Rotary's proud motto, "Service Above Self."
