A huge thank you to Gaynor Johnson and the Trail Trekkers Hiking Tribe for choosing to spend their Sunday morning exploring the Mill Park Conservancy . It’s always so special to see people getting out onto the trails, enjoying the fresh morning air and discovering the little corners of this beautiful piece of natural space right in the heart of our city.

The Conservancy is more than just a place to walk, it’s a community effort, a space for people to connect with nature, get active, slow down for a while and appreciate what we have right here in Gqeberha. And seeing groups like the Trail Trekkers making use of it is exactly what we hope for.

We hope to see you back on the trails again soon!

🌿 WALKING IN THE MILL PARK CONSERVANCY SOON? 🌿

We’ve had a few people mention that they’d love to enjoy the Conservancy, but don’t always feel comfortable walking alone or in very small groups.

So here’s an idea 💚

If you’re planning a walk and are happy for some extra people to join you, comment below with:
🚶 Your day/time
🚶 Approximate pace or distance
🚶 Whether it’s a casual stroll, fitness walk, dog walk, etc.

This could be a great way to:
✨ Meet new people
✨ Explore together
✨ Help everyone feel a little safer while enjoying our beautiful Conservancy

Let’s help build a stronger, friendlier walking community 🌱

The storm has left its mark on the Mill Park Conservancy. Trees that stood for decades have been uprooted, bridges washed away, and the watercourse itself has changed shape under the sheer force of the water. Along with the damage, an enormous amount of litter and debris has been carried into the Conservancy.

We are still assessing the full extent of the destruction and the long road ahead to rebuild. But one thing is certain: we WILL rebuild. If you venture into the Conservancy during this time, please be mindful of areas that could be dangerous, we have mostly taped off dangerous areas with red and white tape, but could have missed some sections.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be calling on our community for support, whether through clean-up efforts, donations, or companies willing to donate staff time and resources to help restore this special space.

Please keep an eye on our page for updates as assessments continue and plans begin to take shape. Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with concern, encouragement, and offers of help. The Conservancy has always belonged to the community, and together we’ll help it recover!

The recent rains have caused major damage to the Mill Park Conservancy water course, from Ramsay Waterfall through to the Waverley side trails.

What was once a shaded stream and trail system has been heavily changed by erosion, with multiple streams, deep wash-aways, fallen trees, rubble, sand, and shale now covering the area.

Unfortunately, 5 of the 6 bridges connecting the Snowden and Waverley sides have been washed away, making this section currently impassable. Several areas, including the perimeter bridge at the Ramsay end, have been taped off due to safety concerns. Please respect the tape and take care.

Most trails on the Snowden side and the Conservancy green remain accessible unless marked otherwise.

Once the rain clears over the next few days, we’ll be able to properly assess the damage and begin planning repairs after what has been an 8-year restoration journey.

We’ll share further updates and photos soon.

Please continue using the accessible areas of the Conservancy, an active community presence helps keep the space safe for everyone.

We’ve unfortunately been made aware of another dog attack that took place in the Conservancy this week.

We want to be very clear: the Conservancy remains a dog-friendly space, and we love seeing your four-legged companions enjoying it alongside you. However, this comes with responsibility. Dogs that are reactive, or do not have reliable recall, must be kept on a leash at all times, especially when being walked by staff who may not have full control over them.

Incidents like this are preventable, and while we are relieved that the injured dog is not seriously hurt or traumatised, it serves as an important reminder for all of us.

Let’s continue to look out for one another and ensure the Conservancy remains a safe, welcoming space for both people and pets.
