Embers Echo🔥
20 February

BP Day is approaching, and what better way to celebrate the founder of our movement than with a campfire alongside the whole district 🔥

Our Cubs had an incredible time singing songs and enjoying skits, making memories that truly captured the spirit of Scouting.

A very special moment for our Pack was the announcement of Kay2 as the Support Team Member for Cubs in Nelson Mandela Bay South—what an achievement! 🌟 She also received a recognition award for her hard work and dedication to the district. We are so proud—three cheers for our Pack Scouter!

We are also excited to share that our Pack received the Star Pack Award 2025 (Silver) 🥈 as well as our National Challenge Badges for 2025.

Reclaimer’s Riddle
13 February 2026

Our Cubs took on trash in a hands-on adventure! ♻️ They explored the world of recycling by learning how to sort waste, reduce what we use, reuse what we can, and upcycle everyday items into something new.

The highlight of the day? Creating two types of DIY firelighters to take home 🔥 From clever teabag fire starters to beautifully scented lavender kindling bundles, our Cubs turned “waste” into something wonderfully useful.

Learning, creating, and making a difference—one small step at a time 🌍💚

Dawn’s Feast
6 February 2026

This week our Cubs became mini navigators and solar chefs.

They learnt how to use and care for a compass properly (because a good explorer respects their tools). Through a lively game of “Shipwreck” and the story The Compass Point Wedding, they mastered the eight points of the compass in a way they won’t forget anytime soon.

Then came the sweet science — Cubs built their own simple solar cookers and used the sun’s energy to melt chocolate onto Marie biscuits. Learning + chocolate is always a win.

Practical skills. Active games. A little melted chocolate.
That’s a good Cub meeting. 🧭🍫🌞

Shadowed Refuge (30 January 2026)

What happens when you give Cubs a mission, a patch of wild space, and tell them they need to survive? You get teamwork, creativity, and a whole lot of determination.

This week our Cubs stepped into “Shadowed Refuge” and learnt practical survival skills the fun way. They discovered what makes a shelter strong, safe, and weather-ready — then headed out to build their own using only natural materials they could find around them. No ready-made kits. Just problem-solving, teamwork, and imagination.

Our Cubs also practised creating distress signals — learning how to attract attention safely and effectively if they ever needed help. They explored different signalling methods and worked out which would be most visible and most effective. Practical skills. Real thinking. Real confidence.

This is what Cubbing looks like — learning by doing, leading through experience, and growing courage in the process.

We’re proud of every Cub who stepped up, got stuck in, and gave it their best.

Adventure. Skills. Teamwork.
That’s how we do it.

Flags up, Cubs!

The Pack dived into The Banner Code — drawing and creating their own South African flags while learning what each part means. 🎨

They also got hands-on with the sheet bend knot (twist, loop, pull… nailed it!) and unpacked the rules that guide us as a Pack.

Creative minds. Busy hands. Proud Cubs.

The Big Spotlight🔦

After weeks of practice and preparing, our Cubs got to showcase what they have been working on to their parents and Scouts in a fantastic Campfire and Talent Show, organized by Henry. It was amazing to see the Cubs sing campfire songs and showcase some of their talents like dancing, magic and singing.

Ready, Set, Prepare

In order to host our own Talent Show and Campfire, there was some preparation that needed to be done by the Cubs in order to prepare and even earn their Entertaining Interest Badge.

The Cubs made their own musical instruments like drums, panflutes and tambourines. As well as practiced singing campfire songs that filled the hall 🎵🎶🎼

Cub Advancement Day Camp

An action packed weekend! Over 2 days Cubs from all over PE participated in the Cub Advancement Day Camp hosted at 1st Walmer Cub and Scout Group. The Cub completed Advancement requirements they would normally do on a camp 🏕

They built shelters, cooked their "flopped" flapjacks on conservation stoves, tied knots 🪢, made water filters, created habitat dioramas and even made their own solar cookers to make s'mores.
