AUGUST IS WOMEN’S MONTH
To all the mothers and caregivers raising children with autism and other special needs we see you, we honour you and we stand with you.
The journey of raising a child with special needs can be filled with beautiful moments of joy, but it can also come with challenges, exhaustion, worry, frustration and emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, while we are busy making sure our children attend their therapy appointments, medical appointments and support programmes we forget that we need support too.
Mom, please take care of YOU too.
As you book your child’s appointment with a therapist, psychologist do consider booking one for yourself as well. Seek psychosocial support when you need it. You do not have to carry everything alone.
This Women’s Month, we encourage every mother and caregiver to:
🌈 Take a break when you can.
🌈 Talk to someone you trust.
🌈Seek professional support when you need it.
🌈Give yourself permission to rest.
🌈Remember that asking for help is not weakness.
At Autism Matters RSA we believe that supporting the child also means supporting the family.
We have contracted 7 doctors and therapists across 7 provinces to strengthen access to professional support for families affected by autism and other developmental disabilities.
Autism Matters RSA is also open to collaboration with organisations, parents, caregivers, professionals and universities who share our vision of building stronger inclusive communities.
Together, through collaboration, compassion and knowledge we can make Africa the best continent for inclusive support.
Happy Women’s Month to every woman who keeps showing up even on the difficult days. You matter too❣️🌈🇿🇦
