๐Ÿ›‘ Roundabout Sign ๐Ÿ›‘

The roundabout sign at Strandfontein Road / Gomery Avenue has officially been re-planted by the Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch as part of ongoing efforts to improve and maintain our area.

A big thank you to Henriette Grobler and her team at Romans Pizza Summerstrand for their generous support. Helen Weyers kindly organised with Romans Pizza to donate five small pizzas to Marshall and his team in appreciation for all the hard work done on the pothole repairs, the sign installation, and the clearing work from Admiralty Way through to Gomery Avenue. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’™

A massive shoutout to Romans Pizza Summerstrand for supporting community-driven projects and the people working hard to make a difference in Summerstrand.

Recent pothole repairs were carried out on Airport Road at the first traffic circle from Forest Hill. This work also enabled the team to repair potholes at the robot on Beach Road turning right into Strandfontein Road, as well as additional repairs further down opposite The Pipe.

A sincere thank you once again to our anonymous donor whose contribution continues to make this project possible. Another big thank you goes out to City Paint and Tool for their continuous support!

Many people do not realise the amount of work, material, and cost involved in repairing potholes properly. A single 30kg bag of asphalt costs in the region of R170โ€“R175, and the process itself is labour intensive. The asphalt must be prepared correctly using pitch and benzene, heated, mixed thoroughly, placed into the pothole, and then compacted properly to ensure a lasting repair.

The larger the pothole, the more material, time, and manpower is required, especially with some of the severe road damage currently being addressed.

Thank you to everyone involved in helping make our roads safer for the community. Every contribution and every helping hand makes a difference.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Pothole Repairs -> Admiralty Road ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Pothole repairs continue on Admiralty Road, adjacent to SPAR and along Strandfontein Road alongside SPAR.

Marshall has been working extremely hard filling some serious potholes - long, deep, and in need of urgent attention.

We would like to thank our members, our anonymous donor, and Patrick and Jason Gillespie from City Paint and Tool for their continued support of the SSNW Pothole Project. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ Teamwork Makes the Dream Work ๐Ÿ’™

Neil Dorwood, a member of The Woods Bowling Club, recently presented Marshall with funds raised during the club's Friday night braai evening.

This surprise donation was a heartfelt thank you from members who regularly had to navigate the potholes to gain access to their club.

A special thank you to our DA Ward Councillor, Sean Tappan, who came to the rescue and invited the Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch to assist with the pothole-filling project. This partnership has shown what can be achieved when residents, local organisations, and community leaders work together towards a common goal.

Thank you to everyone involved for your support, generosity, and commitment to improving our neighbourhood.

๐Ÿšจ Improving Safety Along the University Walkway ๐Ÿšจ

The Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch is pleased to share that the emergency camera and speaker system linked to the university walkway is now fully operational once again.

This important safety feature provides an additional layer of security for students and pedestrians using the route and forms part of our ongoing efforts to improve safety and visibility in the area.

A special thank you to the Electricity Department for their assistance in identifying and resolving the fault and helping get the system back online. Your support is greatly appreciated.

This project forms part of the broader work that has been undertaken along the Admiralty Way and Gomery Avenue walkway, including vegetation clearing, improved visibility, and safety enhancements for all who use the route.

A sincere thank you to:

โœ” Viwe Lusiwana
โœ” Nico Seyerling
โœ” Nasief Kafaar from Munilek
โœ” Donovon Liesch from NMU Security
โœ” Riaan and Marius from Yonke Installation
โœ” Kevin from Afrisec

As well as the entire team for their efforts in getting the Emergency Beacon at the corner of Gomery Avenue and Strandfontein Road connected and operational again.

Together, through collaboration and community involvement, we continue to make a positive difference in Summerstrand.

The Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch continued with our pothole repair project by filling a large pothole in Percy Owen Street.

โ€œChainsawโ€ Marshall was hard at work once again, helping make our roads safer for residents and motorists.

๐ŸŒฟ SSNW and Community Creating a Safer Walkway ๐ŸŒฟ

During the last week, the Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch worked on cleaning up the alien vegetation, Port Jackson willows and other overgrowth along the very wide verge between Admiralty Way and Gomery Avenue. This piece of ground had become an โ€œeye soreโ€ and a place for vagrants to hide, with passers-by often being harassed while using the walkway towards the university.

On Saturday, we completed clearing the opposite side.

We have also been in contact with Mr Azola Jakula of the Parks Department, who will be coming to fetch all the cuttings (and there are a lot of them!). We would like to extend our thanks to the Parks Department for their assistance.

These are the contributors from Gomery Avenue / Admiralty Way whom we would like to thank for their contribution and support towards this project:

โœ” Helen Weyer (SUMMERLAKE)
Donations:
โœ” Nickey Malinga โ€“ Summerbreezz (food)
โœ” Lisa Henderson โ€“ (IBISWOOD)
โœ” Kamva Mantshule (TAM STUDENT HOUSING)
โœ” Albert Joubert (LEOPARDS PRIDE)

We would also like to give a very special thank you to โ€œChainsawโ€ Marshall, whose hard work, skill and dedication were instrumental in making this project a success.

This is another example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to improve safety, visibility and the overall appearance of our neighbourhood. Every project, no matter how big or small, helps make Summerstrand a better and safer place for everyone who lives, works and studies here.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, resources, support and encouragement. Your involvement makes these projects possible. ๐Ÿ’™

If you are not yet a member of SSNW, now is the time to get involved. Together, we can achieve far more than any one person can alone.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Clean-Up at Gomery ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Many residents will know the large Brazilian pepper tree on the left side of Gomery, which had become an area of concern due to dumping, loitering, and general misuse of the space, leaving it in an unclean condition.

The Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch, together with โ€œChainsawโ€ Marshall, carried out a clean-up of the area, removing debris and trimming back overgrowth to help restore visibility and improve the environment.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Pothole Repairs // Wi******er Road ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

The Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch recently received a generous donation from one of our very supportive members, with the only request that the funds be used specifically for pothole repairs. The donor has asked to remain anonymous.

With our ward councillor also committed to addressing road maintenance, it was an easy collaboration to get started, including tackling what has become known as the โ€œmother of all potholesโ€ at the Wi******er Road traffic circle.

A big thank you goes to Jason and Patrick Gillespie (SSNW member and patroller) from City Paint and Tool for their support and assistance.

Shoutout as well to Marshall for his hands-on help and skills on the ground, and to Thomas van Deemter for his technical support.

Another example of what can be achieved when community members step forward and work together. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Kings Beach Clean-Up ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Another clean-up project carried out by the Summerstrand Neighbourhood Watch as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and visibility in our coastal areas.

A vagrant site at Kings Beach was cleared out, helping restore the area and improve conditions for the public and security patrols.

Thank you to everyone involved in making projects like these possible. ๐Ÿ’™
