Thank you to everyone who joined us for Humane World for Animals South Africa’s screening of What Feeds Us at the South End in Gqeberha.
Watching a documentary about South Africa’s food system—its impact on people, animals, and the environment—while surrounded by the history of apartheid was a powerful reminder that the systems we inherit shape our lives in profound ways. But it also reminded us that systems can change.
After the screening, we shared thoughtful conversations, different perspectives, and a delicious plant-based meal prepared by Petronella Catering, inspired by the rich food history of the South End community.
Real change begins with awareness. We can’t change what we don’t understand. Documentaries like What Feeds Us help us ask difficult questions, challenge the status quo, and imagine something better.
But awareness is only the first step. Change happens when people come together—through conversations, supporting local growers, creating community gardens, growing our own food, choosing more compassionate and sustainable meals, and building stronger, more connected communities.
Thank you to everyone who spent the afternoon learning, sharing, and imagining a kinder and more resilient future. 🌱
