“Mayine” — meaning Let it Rain — is a prayer carried through song. 🌧️

Through the ancient Xhosa practice of Ukombela, Suthu Mandlovu shares a chant of worship to Umvelinqangi, the creator — calling for cleansing, renewal, and blessings.

Rooted in the singing traditions of the eMampondweni, this expression of decolonised art carries ancestral storytelling through music, instruments, and poetry.

At the Planty Bru Vegan Music & Arts Festival, the prayer becomes something bigger — a moment where different people, cultures, and stories gather in one rhythm.

A reminder that music, community, and intention can bring us together…
like rain nourishing the same earth. 🌿🌧️

Thank you again from for capturing this incredible moment and creating a meaningful message 🫶

🎨 Art Exhibition at GQ’s Vegan Music & Arts Festival
📍 Gqeberha | 🗓 31 January

Alongside the music, we’re excited to showcase a small exhibition featuring three local artists whose work explores sustainability, storytelling, and the beauty of everyday life.

✨ Robyn Groenewald - ._rubi
Robyn Groenewald is a paper mache artist focused on environmentally friendly, recycled art. Inspired by the belief that “anytime can be art,” her work transforms everyday materials into creative, sustainable expressions.

✨ Jacques Batista
Jacques Batista is a photographer and screendance videographer who creates intimate visual experiences through movement and stillness. His work has featured at major arts festivals locally and internationally, and often reflects a deep connection to inner life, nature, and compassion for animals.

✨ Khaya Ngcangca -
Khaya Ngcangca is a Gqeberha-born visual artist whose fabric collage and mixed media works celebrate hope, joy, and resilience. Drawing from everyday life, his art invites reflection, emotional connection, and a renewed appreciation for life’s simple beauty.

Come for the music, stay for the art — and let yourself feel something 💚

Join Erin Smith at 2pm at the Vegan Music and Arts Festival on January 31st for a Land Art Experience 🌼🌱

In this gently guided creative session, participants will be invited to immerse themselves under the trees of the Isithatha Theatre Complex, gather natural materials, and shape them into a collaborative, ephemeral land artwork. 🌀

There’s no need for any special skills or artistic training – just curiosity, care, and a willingness to collaborate. Spaces are limited so show up promptly if you’d like to participate in this session! ✨
