Techafon Store Launches All-Women Tech Hub in Mthatha

Yesterday, 11 March 2026, the Techafon Store officially launched in Mthatha. The hub is co-owned, managed, and operated by women alumni from Izani’s IT repair training programme, creating new livelihood opportunities in the local tech sector.

Techafon Store is a Circular Economy business built around the 4R model: Repairs, Refurbish, Repurpose and Reuse. The initiative supports small tech businesses while helping the community extend the life of devices and reduce electronic waste.

To celebrate the launch, Techafon is offering free phone and laptop repair labour from 11 March to 14 March 2026. Customers will only pay for parts if they are required.

If you live in or around Mthatha, bring your devices and take advantage of this offer. You can also purchase parts, accessories, gadgets, refurbished phones and laptops at highly affordable prices.

GLLI Alumni Business Reflection & Collaboration Session

In the face of the high unemployment rate in the Eastern Cape, it is more important than ever to support small businesses — because when they thrive, they create jobs, inspire hope, and drive meaningful change in their communities.

In light of this, we recently hosted a GLLI Alumni Business Reflection & Collaboration Session. The session created a space for us to reconnect with our network of Alumni, reflect on their business journeys, and better understand the challenges they are currently facing. These insights help us co-create innovative solutions that remove barriers to growth.

The openness of our Alumni in sharing their progress showed us just how much they’ve grown — from gaining client referrals through the Alumni network, which boosted their sales, to planning product expansions and using their digital footprint to attract new clients. This affirmed the impact our programmes are having on their livelihoods. It also offered valuable insight into the challenges they face and how we can continue supporting their growth and expanding their impact within their communities.

We also shared exciting upcoming initiatives that we envision our Alumni participating in — including training and coaching sessions led by an international experteering team from various global tech companies. These opportunities are designed to strengthen the foundation of our Alumni businesses and position them for long-term success.

We are truly grateful to all the Alumni who made time to attend the session. Your presence, input, and continued commitment to growth and collaboration inspire the work we do at GLLI. Hoping to interact with more Alumni in the next edition.
