πŸ”₯ Fire Awareness Workshop at Sunshine Life Centre πŸ”₯

🧯 Safety starts with knowledge! 🧯

8 of our Sunshine Life Centre clients had the opportunity to attend an Informative and Practical Fire Awareness Workshop, facilitated by Wouna Fall Du Plessis, alongside Safety Officers Firefighter De Wee and Firefighter Tsitsi.

The workshop covered important fire safety knowledge, including different types of fires, fire prevention measures, and the different types of fire extinguishers. Our clients learned how to recognise which extinguisher is suitable for each type of fire, as well as the important precautions to take before attempting to put out a fire.

The session also included hands-on practical training. Participants were taught how to safely use fire extinguishers to put out a fire, as well as how to use the fire truck's water hose. They learned about the different water settings on the hose and how to use them effectively while protecting themselves when approaching and fighting a fire. πŸš’πŸ’¦πŸ”₯

It was an empowering and educational experience that equipped our clients with valuable Fire safety knowledge, practical skills and confidence that can help them respond more safely in an emergency.

A big thank you to LifeFirst Response, Firefighter De Wee and Tsitsi for sharing their expertise and making this important learning experience possible! πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ§―β€οΈ

For Women's Day the three female staff members of the Sunshine Life Skills Centre went on a road trip to Gqeberha.

Mfundokazi Noxonya, supervisor of sewing, Helen Averbuch, coordinator, and Sinazo Maceba, supervisor of crochet, combined work with pleasure to research and explore.

The first stop was the Motherwell Enviro Hub where they were hosted by Kamohelo Moalosi. He showed them around the beautiful centre where art, music, recycling, sewing and gardening are amongst the exciting activities on offer.

Next stop was wool shopping to enable Sinazo to launch the production of a new product range in crochet.

Last stop was the Nanaga Farm Stall where they ate lunch and researched the retail space, meeting with management to propose what will hopefully be a fruitful business plan.

A wonderful day with wonderful women blessed with sunshine.

Client Development Pathway Workshops
July saw the continued implementation of our Client Development Pathway Workshops. Three workshops have already been completed with 17 participants, helping clients develop personalised plans to address the challenges they face. Each participant's pathway is recorded in our App system, allowing our team to monitor progress, conduct home visits, encourage participation, and evaluate long-term outcomes.
Strengthening Community Collaboration
We organised and chaired the Ndlambe NGO Forum Board Meeting at the Royal St Andrews Hotel, bringing together representatives from across the development sector to strengthen collaboration and coordinate efforts that benefit communities throughout Ndlambe.
Our team also attended a meet-and-greet with NGOs in Kenton-on-Sea, providing another valuable opportunity to build relationships, share ideas, and explore future collaboration.
Community Market Day
On 1 August, we hosted another successful Sunshine Market Day, combined with Marine Protected Areas Awareness Day. Visitors enjoyed educational displays and information sessions alongside more than 20 local vendors, including several Sunshine Life Centre entrepreneurs. The event created valuable sales opportunities while promoting environmental awareness and celebrating local enterprise.

πŸ’› Thank You
Every month reminds us that lasting change is created through partnership. Thank you to our volunteers, donors, trainers, businesses, government partners, and community members who continue to make this work possible. Together we are creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and building stronger communities across Ndlambe.
