This Saturday, our beginner music class had an exciting session facilitated by Luthando Radebe, a second-year Music student at Rhodes University. Luthando introduced our young musicians to foundational music theory concepts and challenged them to explore the fascinating world of polyrhythms, where different rhythms come together to create something truly magical.

The room was filled with concentration, curiosity, and plenty of moments of excitement as students listened, counted, clapped, and worked together to make sense of complex rhythmic patterns. It was wonderful to see them stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new musical challenges.
We were also delighted to welcome three volunteers from Sunshine Life Centre, whose presence, encouragement, and support added even more warmth and energy to the session. Community partnerships like these play a vital role in creating meaningful learning experiences for our students.

A big thank you to Luthando and our friends from Sunshine Life Centre for investing in the growth of the next generation of musicians! 🌟💛

There is something truly special about a room filled with young people learning, laughing, listening, and making music together.

Today’s session by Sambesiwe Mavela was more than just music — it was connection, teamwork, focus, creativity, and joy. From the moment we started with team-building games to theory and practice, the space was alive with energy as students encouraged one another, challenged themselves, and grew together through every activity and every note played.

These are the moments that remind us why music education matters so deeply. It creates community, builds confidence, and gives young people a space where they can belong, express themselves, and dream bigger.

We are so proud of the dedication and spirit our students continue to bring every week. The journey continues! 🌟

Yesterday was a busy day at Sunshine Life Centre. Our students had the opportunity to enjoy inspiring art and guitar lessons with the amazing Helen Averbuch and Colleen Donaghy. From exploring creativity through visual art to making music together on the guitar, the energy in the room was filled with excitement, laughter, and learning.

Moments like these remind us how important the arts are in building confidence, expression, and community among our young people. Thank you to our amazing teachers, Helen and Colleen, for sharing your time, passion, and creativity with our students! 💛

Inkwenkwezi has been in full swing at the Sunshine Life Centre , and it's been inspiring to welcome new students joining us through Nemato Change a Life.

In our workskhop yesterday, students worked with our art teacher, Helen Averbuch, exploring ideas of three-dimensional thinking and spatial awareness. They then used cardboard construction techniques to design and build giant chess pieces - a hands-on activity that brought imagination, design, and teamwork in a powerful way.

Sessions continue at Sunshine Life Centre, where music, art, and learning meet in meaningful ways. It's been busy and rewarding, with new energy coming in and students engaging deeply in the process.

This past Saturday was a truly inspiring day of learning and musical excellence.

We began our very first workshop at Sunshine Life Centre, where our students spent a full day engaging deeply with music. It was a meaningful and energising start to what promises to be a powerful journey this year.
A heartfelt thank you to Stenden South Africa for generously providing transport for our students. Your support made this day possible.

In the afternoon, our students attended a packed concert at St Pauls Anglican Church Port Alfred entitled “Five Centuries of Song,” presented by Caitlin Balmer and Peter Black.
The programme was captivating, featuring a rich selection of works ranging from Bach to Simon & Garfunkel, from Fauré to Lerner and Loewe. Peter Black also performed organ solos by Bach and Vierne, adding depth and brilliance to the afternoon. The concert concluded with a rousing “Alleluia” from Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate — a jubilant finale that left the audience uplifted.
For our students, this was more than just attending a concert. It was a powerful opportunity to witness artistry at the highest level after a full day of working on their own craft.
At Inkwenkwezi, we believe in creating experiences where learning meets inspiration — and Saturday was exactly that. 🎶
