Good morning colleagues

I write to you today with humility, and with a sincere apology for how things have unfolded around our Limpopo Dialogue. This was meant to be one of the great success stories of our nine-province journey.

So much of our collective engagement, energy and hope had been poured into this event, and we know that many of you made real sacrifices to be part of it. That the logistics did not meet the standard you deserve is something we take full responsibility for, and we are deeply sorry.

After intense engagement with our colleagues from NEDLAC that stretched until 2am, we have resolved on the following way forward:

We ask, with the greatest humility, that those of you who are closest to Polokwane, or who have the means to travel to Peter Mokaba Stadium, please still join us for the Dialogue. Your presence matters, and we do not take it for granted.

The programme has been adjusted to ensure ample time is given to hearing from you directly, on how we as leaders can better mobilise in provinces like Limpopo, where the sheer vastness of the region creates real logistical challenges that we must plan around more carefully in future.

We have also arranged a virtual link for those of you who are unable to join us physically, so that no voice is left out of this dialogue.

We also want to share a harder truth, one we have been sitting with since yesterday. There is a real and painful pattern of empathetic responses toward LGBTQIA+ work in this province.

This is not something we will let pass quietly. Within our Steering Committee mechanisms, we commit to raising this matter with the Head of State and the Eminent Persons Group for further interrogation, so that it receives the attention and accountability it deserves.

To every person in Limpopo who has stood with us, waited on us, or been let down by us this week: thank you for your patience, and we are sorry.

We remain committed to you, and to doing better.
In solidarity,
Tebogo K. Legodi
National Dialogue Co-Chairperson
