RUN YOUR HOUSEHOLD LIKE A BUSINESS

Recently, I had the privilege of having a Money Talk with a group, and one of the topics we explored was something we often overlook:

Does your household have a strategy?

We spend so much time planning businesses, careers and organisations—but how intentional are we about planning our homes and our family’s future?

Ask yourself:

📍 Does your household know where you are going?
📍 Do you have clear short-, medium- and long-term goals?
📍 Does everyone understand the purpose and direction of the household?
📍 Are you intentional about how you allocate your money, time and resources?
📍 Is your income diversified, or does your household depend on one source of income?
📍 Are you building assets that can generate income beyond your salary?
📍 Are you preparing adequately for retirement, or are you hoping you will “figure it out” later?
📍 Are you protecting your family against unexpected events and financial shocks?
📍 Is someone holding you accountable?
📍 Do you conduct periodic household reviews to assess your progress?
📍 Have you identified and documented the risks that could derail your plans?
📍 Does your financial output tell a story of purposeful ex*****on?

Your household is an important institution.

It needs vision. Strategy. Priorities. Accountability. Income diversification. Risk management. Retirement planning. Measurement. And regular reviews.
