💙 A Mother’s Courage Brought Protection, Justice and Hope for Her Daughter.

In a community in Limpopo, a mother faced every parent’s worst fear when her teenage daughter went missing and later disclosed that she had experienced sexual violence.

Through HIVSA and its implementing partner, Bloodriver Advice Office, a rapid and coordinated response ensured that the young survivor received immediate medical care, trauma counselling, psychosocial support, and protection within the critical 72-hour window. A case was opened promptly, and the necessary legal processes were initiated.

This intervention highlights the importance of:
✔ Early reporting
✔ Community support systems
✔ Access to healthcare and psychosocial services
✔ Strong collaboration between HIVSA, Bloodriver Advice Office, SAPS, and healthcare providers

Today, the young survivor continues to receive ongoing care and support through the Tshireletso Programme funded by the National Lotteries Commission.

Her caregiver now encourages others:
“Ask for help as soon as you are afraid. There are people who will support you, and health services can provide the care and protection your child needs.”

At HIVSA, together with Bloodriver Advice Office, we remain committed to protecting vulnerable children, strengthening community support systems, and ensuring survivors receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve. 💙
