Big things are coming for the little ones at Formosa Primary 🎨🛝✨

As part of The Bitou 10 Foundation’s 2026 Mandela Day Initiative, we are incredibly excited to announce the refurbishment of the Grade R playground at Formosa Primary School ❤️

What is currently a worn play space will soon be transformed into a vibrant, joyful environment where children can learn, play, imagine, and simply be kids again 🌈🌱

Work is set to begin on 22 June, and this project is made even more special through the support of local businesses and the incredible New Horizon community 🤝 Together, we are creating something meaningful—not just a playground, but a space filled with care, dignity, and opportunity for the youngest learners in our community.

These “before” photos are only the beginning… and we cannot wait to share the journey and transformation with you all 🙌

The countdown to the 2026 Bitou Spelling Stars has officially begun ⭐📚✨

While the big event only takes place in August, the excitement is already building as spelling words are now being shared with schools across Bitou 🏫 Teachers are preparing learners, classrooms are buzzing with practice and encouragement, and young minds are already rising to the challenge with determination and pride 💪

Bitou Spelling Stars is about so much more than spelling words correctly. It’s about building confidence, strengthening literacy, creating opportunities for learners to grow, and giving children the chance to shine like the stars they truly are 🌟

There is something incredibly special about watching learners discover what they are capable of through hard work, preparation, and encouragement ❤️ From the nervous first attempts to the proud moments on stage, every part of the journey matters.

A huge thank you to our teachers and schools who invest so much time and heart into preparing learners each year 🙌 Your support helps create an environment where children can thrive, compete, learn, and believe in themselves.

We cannot wait to see the talent, courage, and brilliance that this year’s Spelling Stars will bring 🌈

As the storm continues to impact our area through heavy flooding, school closures, damaged homes, fallen trees, and widespread disruptions, our hearts are with every family navigating these difficult conditions 🌧️

At Bitou10 Foundation, education is at the heart of what we do—but the reason education matters so deeply is because our children matter. Their wellbeing, safety, warmth, and care will always come first 🫶

While schools may be closed for now, we know these decisions are made to protect learners, teachers, and families during dangerous conditions. Right now, staying safe is the priority.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible people and organisations across our community who are showing up in both big and small ways every single day 🙌

To those working tirelessly to restore electricity ⚡
To the teams clearing fallen trees and dangerous roads 🚜

There’s something powerful about young people stepping into spaces where they know they can make a difference ✨

From 30 March to 2 April, Bitou10 Foundation, in partnership with YearBeyond , hosted a four-day Technical Training in Plettenberg Bay for our YeBoneers placed in local schools—and it was far more than just a training 📚

Over the four days, these young changemakers leaned in, grew in confidence, and built skills that truly matter 💡 From strengthening Numeracy and Literacy support to learning how to engage learners with intention and care, the focus was simple: show up prepared, and show up well.

And they did 👏

By the end of the training, there was a real sense of readiness—of stepping forward with purpose into classrooms and after-school spaces, equipped to support, encourage, and uplift the learners they serve 🌱

This is where impact begins. Not just in programmes, but in people. In the small, consistent moments that shape a learner’s confidence, ability, and future ❤️

💛 A Thank You and a New Chapter 💛

Today we share both a heartfelt farewell and an exciting new chapter for the Bitou 10 Foundation.

Our Chairperson, Douglas Baartman, has stepped down from his role as he relocates with his family from Plettenberg Bay to Port Elizabeth. Douglas has led with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to the work we do, and his steady guidance has been a meaningful part of our journey. We are incredibly grateful for the time, heart, and leadership he has given to the Foundation — he will be greatly missed, and we wish him and his family every blessing in this new chapter.

At our recent board meeting, we were pleased to appoint Dianne Kloka-Speight as our new Chairperson. Dianne has previously served in this role and brings valuable experience, insight, and a strong connection to the Foundation’s vision. We are confident that she will once again lead with dedication and bring even more to this next season.

Dianne shared this message as she steps into her role: "I am honoured to continue serving the B10F in my new role as Chairperson. I firmly believe that education is the cornerstone of empowerment, and I will carry this conviction forward in my leadership. Together with my fellow Board Members, we remain committed to providing resources for teaching and learning, and to expanding opportunities for all learners in the Bitou community ."
