Toy Project

Toy Project Two beautiful valleys in the foothills of the Klein Karoo and in Plett are the homes of our Toy Project women who handstitch our shweshwe and linen toys.

The Groenfontein Toy Project began in a beautiful valley in the foothills of the Swartberg in the Klein Karoo in response to the high levels of unemployment in the area. Gradually we trained 12 women to make these beautiful Shweshwe and Mungo fabric Toys by hand. Now almost two years down the line we have a range of beautifully crafted colourful handmade toys including Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Bi

g and small Teddies, African Dolls, Donkeys, Owl..... and more African Animals to come... We also have just introduced our divinely soft chenille Baby blankets with Appliqued African animal details in a vibrant collection of colours. With their new skill of toy making, the women of the project are changing their lives for the better, allowing them to provide a better future for their children and a daily income for life's necessities. Buying a toy keeps them sewing and affirms their amazing efforts and beautiful workmanship....so buy one, or a few....
