On Wednesday evening, members from PWP Neighbourhood Watch joined fellow patrollers from Monte Vista Plattekloof Glen Neighbourhood Watch , Edgemead Neighbourhood Watch , Bothasig Neighbourhood Watch and Tygerdal Neighbourhood Watch for a joint high-visibility white light patrol through Monte Vista accompanied by District Group.

It was great to see neighbouring watches working side-by-side, showing unity, support and a shared commitment to safer communities. Visibility matters and when multiple areas stand together, it sends a strong message that criminals are being watched from all angles. πŸ‘€πŸš”

A big thank you to every volunteer who gave up their time to take part. Community safety doesn’t happen by accident... it happens because ordinary residents step up and make a difference.

🚨 Join the PWP Neighbourhood Watch 🚨

You don’t need to be a superhero.
You don’t need tactical gear, muscles from an action movie, or the ability to survive on coffee and two hours of sleep. πŸ˜…

You just need to care about your community.

PWP Neighbourhood Watch is made up of ordinary residents who give a little of their time to help make our area safer, more connected, and better informed. Some patrol regularly, some help from home, some assist at events, and some simply keep an extra eye open in their street. Every bit helps.

Over the years, we’ve built more than just a watch group. We’ve built friendships, support systems, late-night coffee chats at patrol meetups, teamwork during storms and emergencies, and a community that shows up when people need help most.

Patrolling is not just about crime prevention.
It’s about visibility.
It’s about community spirit.
It’s about knowing your neighbours and working together instead of everyone feeling isolated behind walls and gates.

Whether you can help once a month or once a week, there’s a place for you.

βœ” Meet new people
βœ” Make a real difference in your area
βœ” Be part of a team that genuinely cares
βœ” Help keep PWP safe and connected

And yes… there are occasionally snacks involved, which honestly improves morale more than any strategy meeting ever has. β˜•πŸͺ

If you’ve been thinking about joining, this is your sign.

Come ride along. Come meet the team. Come see what we’re about.

A massive thank you to everyone who has stepped up during this stormy weather and continues to help wherever they can. Over the past hours, we have seen true community spirit in action.

To our incredible patrollers, thank you for going out in difficult and often dangerous conditions to assist the community. From driving around to assess damage, putting up danger tape, clearing drains where possible, chopping up fallen branches, reporting flooding, and helping keep roads passable, your efforts have made a real difference.

Thank you as well to those coordinating with street groups and community groups, making sure residents stay informed with the latest updates and hazards. Good communication during situations like this is invaluable.

A special thank you to the residents who rolled up their sleeves and helped move branches, clear areas, and support where needed. It is always impressive to see neighbours helping neighbours when it matters most.
We also want to acknowledge those who assisted with rescuing dogs that got loose during the storm, and helping reunite them safely with their owners. Sometimes the four-legged residents need saving too.

Thank you to District Group and Zonewatch Security for assisting with clearing obstructions, responding to incidents, and helping return lost dogs home safely as well as Fidelity ADT for logging calls.
We also appreciate the fast response from the City of Cape Town teams who attended to various storm-related issues that were logged!

This weather has caused plenty of chaos, but it has also shown what a strong community looks like. Thank you to every patroller, resident, responder, and volunteer who has helped. You are appreciated more than you know.

🚧 Pothole Alert – Rothschild Boulevard🚧

A big thank you to our PWP patrollers who stepped in last night after a vehicle hit a deep pothole in the left lane of Rothschild Boulevard, near La Provence Park (between Giel Basson and La Provence Road). The impact resulted in a burst tyre and a damaged rim.

Unfortunately, the warning cone that had been placed in the hole had been removed, leaving it completely exposed and catching drivers off guard.

The pothole has already been logged with the City for repair, but our patrollers didn’t stop there. Around 22:30, they returned with sand and did what they could to fill the hole and reduce the immediate risk to other motorists.

πŸ‘ Huge appreciation to everyone involved for taking initiative and looking out for the community.

⚠️ *Please drive with caution along this stretch of Rothschild, especially at night.* The pothole is still a hazard until it is properly repaired.

πŸ™ And a reminder to all: if you see cones or warning markers around hazards, please don’t move them. They are there to prevent exactly this kind of damage.

🚨 NEW: Report Safety Issues Directly from Your Phone πŸ“±

Good news, residents β€” you no longer have to call everything in

The City of Cape Town App now lets you report a range of safety and by-law issues directly to the Public Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) in just a few taps.

And yes, this is the kind of thing where your quick report can actually make a difference.

WHAT CAN YOU REPORT?
Right now, you can log incidents like:
- Public drinking
- Illegal ranking
- Abandoned or broken-down vehicles
- Squatting
- Noise nuisance
…and more (with additional categories being added over time)

WHY USE THE APP INSTEAD OF CALLING?

- πŸ“ Automatically sends your location – no trying to explain β€œthat house near the tree by the corner”

- πŸ“Έ Upload photos to give the City a clearer picture of what’s happening

- 🀫 Report discreetly without drawing attention

- ⚑ Faster routing to the right department for action

- πŸ“‘ Get alerts about incidents happening in your area

- πŸ“‰ Helps reduce pressure on call centres so urgent calls get through quicker

Bonus: It uses very little data, and there are plans to make it data-free in future.

If the issue doesn’t fall under one of the App categories, you’ll still be redirected to the PECC number: 021 480 7700

πŸ’‘ WHY THIS MATTERS
A lot of successful interventions start with residents reporting what they see. This just makes it quicker, easier, and more effective.

πŸ“±πŸŒ… Early Morning Drop-Offs & Pick-Ups πŸŒ…πŸ“±

Early mornings can be rushed, cold, and still a bit dark β€” which makes it even more important to stay alert and not get distracted by your phone.

πŸ‘€ Heads up, not down
Walking while texting or scrolling means you might miss cars, people, or potential dangers around you.
πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ Stay visible & aware
Stick to well-lit areas and be extra careful near the school gates where traffic is busy.
🎧 Keep earphones low or off
You need to hear what’s happening around you β€” cars, ho***rs, or someone calling out.
⚠️ Don’t flash your phone
Holding your phone out in the open can make you an easy target. Keep it away unless you really need it.
🀝 Walk with friends if you can
There’s safety in numbers, especially in the early hours.

πŸ‘‰ Let’s stay sharp, stay safe, and look out for each other πŸ’ͺ
